Brightmoor Detroit Summer Learning Support for Early Learners
Through a partnership with MiSide, Detroit PBS KIDS supported Brightmoor Detroit families with resources and strategies designed to strengthen early literacy and language development during the summer months.
Grounded in the Talking is Teaching initiative, families learned that everyday conversations, shared reading, and engaging children through their five senses help build vocabulary, listening skills, and healthy brain development.
Caregivers were encouraged to talk, listen, read, sing, and explore the world with their children through simple interactions that create rich learning experiences.
Families received Talking is Teaching materials, PBS KIDS stickers, Read Write Roar literacy books, a Grover Sesame Street book, Letter Heroes reading support worksheets, PBS educational event flyers, dry erase boards with markers and erasers, Elmo, Oscar, and Cookie Monster reading buddies, and carry-all bags.
Together, these resources empowered caregivers to spark meaningful conversations and joyful learning moments, helping prepare young children for future school success while fostering strong family connections and a lifelong love of learning.
