My heart is shattered...
Kaycee was put down after she broke her leg while trying to stand while waking up from anesthesia after undergoing surgery to remove her ovaries due to a granulosa cell tumor. This is in no way the fault of the vet, staff, or clinic.
I will not pretend that I loved her like no other horse, for we had a love-hate relationship; however, Kaycee was the BEST therapy/lesson horse I have ever had! She was not pleasant to be around on the ground, but was a saint under saddle. She could take a child from a wheelchair and give them the freedom to move. She took a young girl who was blind since birth and gave her the freedom to lope without fear. Kaycee could lift depression with movement and relieve anxiety with slowness and quietness. She could take a fearful rider and make them brave. She would stand quietly while her rider did a therapeutic activity. She knew what her riders needed. Kaycee was a once-in-a-lifetime horse, and she leaves behind shoes that will be almost impossible to fill. I don't know what God has planned for me, and I am struggling to understand. God needed Kaycee back, and I need to trust him.
Run free, Kaycee, in the green pastures above with my sky herd. You will be greatly missed by many people.
