We've been invited to join the The Boothbay Region Garden Club WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11 for a timely hands on demonstration of Wintersowing! Wintersowing is an easy and cost-effective propagation technique to start seeds outdoors in winter. Seeds are planted in protective, vented containers (often recycled milk jugs) that act as mini-greenhouses, allowing them to experience natural cold stratification, rain and temperature fluctuations. This method promotes high-percentage germination of hardy seedlings, which are naturally acclimated to the environment and ready for spring, without needing indoor lighting or hardening off.
The program will include a summary of the basics of winter sowing. Following that, we’ll have a hands-on activity for everybody attending with containers, soil and seeds provided. Everybody gets to go home with their own jug of sown seeds! It will still be early enough in the season to do your own winter sowing, if desired.
This timely program is on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at approximately 2:30 p.m. at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church (32 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor). The public is invited to join us for refreshments which will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Talk about a gourd-geous challenge! 🧡 For our October 2nd flower design practice, the theme was to create an arrangement using any kind of gourd or squash—either as the vessel or integrated into the design.

The creativity was incredible, using everything from Delphinium and Zinnias to Protea and Black-Eyed Susans, all accented by the perfect autumn squash.
Swipe to see the amazing work!

🌱 Our Scholarships Page is Live! 🌱

We’re excited to announce that applications for our Garden Club scholarships are open. Students can apply by mail or online. All the details are right on our website!

The Garden Club of Wiscasset awards scholarships to students majoring in horticulture, botany, environmental sciences, or related fields, graduating from high schools in towns in which our garden club members live (including, but not necessarily limited to: Wiscasset, Alna, Westport Island, Edgecomb, Damariscotta, and Newcastle).

In the past, we've had difficulty finding students to award—we had funds collected, but lacked applicants... Let's fix that!

Please help us spread the word! Share with your friends, family, schools, and guidance counselors so more students can benefit.

Lovely acknowledgment! 🫶

*To clarify, the garden was created in the early 1900s in the foundation of a hotel which had burned down, not a natural hollow. 🤓
