We recently asked our volunteers to share their favorite object at one of our three historic sites. Last week, we introduced you to the Parson Bailey Rose. This week, we want to highlight another favorite object that is also related to the Reverend Jacob Bailey!
A small red table that belonged to Bailey sits proudly in the Pownalborough Court House tavern. Bailey left this table behind when he fled Dresden during the American Revolution. Supporters of the American cause drove Bailey, an Anglican minister loyal to the British Crown, out of town.
Come visit the Pownalborough Court House and learn more about Jacob Bailey and the American Revolution in Dresden this summer, during the 250th anniversary of our country’s independence! The Court House is open Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The 1754 Chapman-Hall House is also a great place to learn about the Revolution, and the 1811 Old Jail has a rich history as well! Both sites open on June 6th, and are open Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Tune in next week to learn more about our volunteers’ favorite objects!
