Winthrop Royalty

Promoting and celebrating the community of Winthrop with poise and grace. The candidates also choose a young woman to serve as Miss Congeniality.

The Winthrop Royalty program first started in 1981, and has been providing opportunities for women in the Winthrop community consistently since 1985. Each year, young women have the opportunity to participate in the Winthrop Royalty candidate program to celebrate Grackle Days. A panel of judges chooses a candidate to serve as Miss Winthrop, and another candidate to serve as Winthrop Princess. Together, these women promote the community throughout the region at parades, community festivals, volunteering in the community and performing community service.

One of our FAVORITE events of the year!

Our Winthrop Royalty had the best time at the Friends of Sibley County Under the Harvest Moon Dance!

The girls helped with hair and makeup, enjoyed visiting with everyone during dinner, and then danced the night away!

This is always such a fun and special evening, and one we look forward to every year! A huge thank you to everyone who makes this wonderful event possible. We absolutely love being part of it!

A little dancing, a lot of giggling, and maybe a few missed steps along the way.

Our Sparkle Sisters gave the girls a little lesson in some of the traditional dances that are such a special part of New Ulm’s German heritage.

But our favorite part? The smiles on their faces and the giggles that never seemed to stop! 🥰

The girls traveled down to New Ulm to spend the evening celebrating our Sparkle Sisters and the incredible year they had!

To begin the evening, the girls socialized with all the visiting royalty before heading outside to learn some of the dances that are so special to New Ulm and the German heritage they celebrate.

After dancing and sharing plenty of giggles, the girls took their seats as coronation was about to begin.

Congratulations to our newly crowned Sparkle Sisters! We cannot wait to spend the year with you!

And of course, no royalty night is complete without a late night McDonald’s run! The girls ended their night meeting up with Miss Sleepy Eye, Alex, for a little post coronation McDonald’s stop before heading home.

ANOTHER CROWN FOR OUR QUEEN!!!!

We are SO incredibly excited to share that our very own Miss Winthrop, Lara Stegeman, has been crowned GFW’s 2026 Homecoming Queen!!

We have had the absolute best time watching Lara shine this year, and we could not be more proud of her! She represents both GFW and our Winthrop community so beautifully, and now she gets to add another crown to an already unforgettable year!

And a HUGE congratulations to GFW’s 2026 Homecoming King, Matthew Lee! Congratulations to you both on such a special and exciting honor!

We are SO proud of you, Lara!! ❤️

We’re looking back at another fun Winthrop event from earlier this month, the 2nd Annual Conklin Hill Festival! Our girls had a great time taking in all the fun and spending time with so many familiar faces from our community!

A HUGE shoutout to everyone who helped make this event happen! Winthrop is so fortunate to have such dedicated community members who continue to put their time and energy into creating fun events like this for our community. We appreciate you! 🤍

October is Fire Prevention Month! 🚒🔥

It’s a great reminder for all of us to check our smoke alarms, talk through our family fire escape plans, and make sure everyone in the house knows what to do in an emergency.

And while we’re talking fire safety, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to say a BIG thank you to the Winthrop Fire Department! We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who give their time, answer the call, and help keep our community safe.

Thank you, Winthrop Fire Department, for everything you do for our community! ❤️

Daydreaming back to this fun moment from earlier this month!

The girls doing a little line dancing in the streets of Northfield with some of their Glencoe Sparkle Sisters and the St. Paul Winter Carnival Queen of Snows during Defeat of Jesse James Days.

Just one of those sweet, fun moments that makes these adventures and friendships so special.

Royalty with a sweet tooth coming through! 🛒

No need to sugarcoat it… these girls are pretty sweet. 🍬🍫🍭

Finally, our Winthrop Princess, Maddie Meitner will share about the experience we had last weekend in Northfield.

“Last weekend we had an amazing opportunity to be a part of Northfield’s Defeat of Jesse James celebration. The events we attended felt so fun and immersive. Everyone dressed the part, in a mix of cowboy boots, hats, flannels, and plenty more creative outfits! We got to meet a bunch of new royalty groups and experience a live reenactment of the attempted bank robbery by the James-Younger Gang in 1876. The parade was just as fun! The parade route was lined with excited people who welcomed us to Northfield! This was such a memorable celebration and definitely a highlight of our weekend!”
