Our monthly theme for June is advocacy, self-advocacy, self-care and building resilience. Every month for LDA-Iowa is a time for providing support, education and advocacy. In our most recent newsletter, our President, Dr. Honora Wall, shared a quote from Dale Carnegie,"If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy," As Dr. Wall pointed out, there are so many changes going on that are impacting services, supports and outcomes for Iowans who are impacted by a disability. It's time for ALL of us to get BUSY! Join LDA-Iowa and help us get BUSY! To join, go to: https://ldaamerica.org/membership/

These three simple time-saving tips from the Council for Exceptional Children are great for helping special education teachers get started and organized. Tip 1: Create a weekly prep schedule, for example, Monday IEP updates, Tuesday collaborate with teachers, Wednesday work on lesson plans and so on. Tip 2: Delegate daily tasks and routines. First make a list of all of the routine classroom chores and then divide up chores among yourself, para-educators and even students! Tip 3: Set boundaries on time spent working and stick with it. By doing so, you will learn to prioritize and be more efficient with your use of time.
