McDonald’s Clutch Hitting Propels Winterset Varsity Baseball To Victory Over Norwalk

Drake McDonald drove in four runs on three hits to lead Winterset Varsity Baseball past Norwalk 14-13 on Thursday at Norwalk Baseball/Softball Complex. Drake McDonald singled in the second scoring one, singled in the third scoring one, hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth scoring one, and tripled in the sixth scoring one.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as Winterset Varsity Baseball collected 14 hits and Norwalk 15 in the high-scoring affair.

Winterset Varsity Baseball jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Grant Heithoff singled, scoring one run, Wyatt Swanson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Cam Sheffield tripled, scoring three runs.

Winterset Varsity Baseball added one run in the second after Drake McDonald singled to left field.

Winterset Varsity Baseball extended their early lead with three runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Evan Osborn, Drake McDonald, and Grant Heithoff.

Winterset Varsity Baseball took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Reed Smith walked, Max Breeding grounded into a fielder's choice, Drake McDonald hit a sacrifice fly, and Grant Heithoff singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Drake McDonald pitched four innings in relief for Winterset Varsity Baseball. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and four runs while, striking out one and walking none. Max Breeding led things off on the hill for Winterset Varsity Baseball. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and nine runs (eight earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking four.

Winterset Varsity Baseball tallied 14 hits in the game. Grant Heithoff led Winterset Varsity Baseball with four hits in five at bats. Reed Smith and Cam Sheffield each collected multiple hits for Winterset Varsity Baseball. Winterset Varsity Baseball had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Reed Smith and Ben Porter led the team with three bases on balls each.

Next up for Winterset Varsity Baseball is a game against Bondurant-Farrar on Monday.

Winterset Varsity Baseball Beat ADM

Winterset Varsity Baseball were victorious against ADM 5-2 on Friday.

Winterset Varsity Baseball took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Reed Smith doubled down the left field line, and Drake McDonald walked, each scoring one run.

Winterset Varsity Baseball extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Reed Smith and Max Breeding.

Max Breeding stepped on the hill first for Winterset Varsity Baseball. The righty surrendered three hits and one run over five innings, striking out seven and walking none. Logan Peyton appeared in relief for Winterset Varsity Baseball.

Reed Smith and Wyatt Swanson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Winterset Varsity Baseball while hitting back-to-back. Reed Smith and Max Breeding each drove in two runs for Winterset Varsity Baseball.

Next up for Winterset Varsity Baseball is a game at Carlisle on Monday.

Winterset Varsity Baseball Trounce Carroll Varsity Tigers

Winterset Varsity Baseball easily dispatched Carroll Varsity Tigers on Thursday at Merchants Park, 22-6.

Carroll Varsity Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after #1 singled to center field, and #1 stole home, each scoring one run.

Winterset Varsity Baseball jumped into the lead in the top of the fourth when Wyatt Swanson was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Reed Smith tripled, scoring three runs.

Winterset Varsity Baseball flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on two hits to take the lead, 10-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Evan Osborn that drove in two.

Winterset Varsity Baseball scored 10 runs on zero hits in the top of the seventh inning. Grant Heithoff drew a walk, scoring one run, Carson Cook was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Evan Osborn drew a walk, scoring one run, Ty Bane drew a walk, scoring one run, Fox Hillyer drew a walk, scoring one run, Ethan Hoffelmeyer was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Riley Akers drew a walk, scoring one run, Blake Acton was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Memphis Brooks drew a walk, scoring one run.

Reed Smith started the game for Winterset Varsity Baseball. The starter gave up five hits and five runs (two earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one. #6 started on the bump for Carroll Varsity Tigers. The pitcher gave up two hits and four runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out six and walking four. Ben Porter and Memphis Brooks each appeared in relief for Winterset Varsity Baseball.

Reed Smith and Evan Osborn each collected two hits for Winterset Varsity Baseball. Reed Smith and Evan Osborn each drove in three runs for Winterset Varsity Baseball. Winterset Varsity Baseball had patience at the plate, tallying 19 walks for the game. Grant Heithoff and Ben Porter led the team with three walks each. Grant Heithoff stole two bases. Winterset Varsity Baseball ran wild on the base paths, tallying seven stolen bases for the game.
