Memorial Day Weekend Tour at Lake Solano
Join a free, guided nature walk at Lake Solano Park on Saturday, May 24th, from 10am to noon. It’s sure to be a fun and educational experience for all ages!

Lake Solano volunteers Cricket Kanouff and Kitty Van Newkoop will lead this two hour, easy-paced
tour. Walk back through the mists of time to learn about the Patwin Indians, the Berryessa brothers, and
John Wolfskill’s impact on the region. Discover how Putah Creek was transformed into Lake Solano,
bringing water to farmers and residents of Solano County. Learn about the native trees and plants, and
some of their medicinal secrets, passed down through the generations by Native Americans. Look for Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, Peacocks or other wildlife on the tour. Your guides will also show
you what the resident beavers have been up to!

Lake Solano Park and Campground is located at 8685 Pleasants Valley Road, just off Highway 128 near
the town of Winters. Meet Cricket and Kitty at 10am in front of the Nature Center, at the west entrance of
the Park. Their presentation is free, and parking is only $5 per vehicle, payable at the east entrance of the Park, on the other side of Pleasants Valley Road. No RSVP is necessary. For questions in advance, call Sara Tremayne at Putah Creek Council, 530-795-3006. For same-day information, call 435-760-9326.

This tour is a great opportunity to have fun, learn, and get fresh air and exercise. Be prepared for variable weather and trail conditions by bringing water, wearing sturdy closed-toe shoes, and dressing in layers.

A camera, binoculars and snacks are also recommended. Continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery and
wildlife at Lake Solano Park & Campground by picnicking, or renting a campsite for the weekend on a
first-come, first-served basis.
