HISTORY
Winters Friends of the Library was first formed in response to the temporary closing of our local branch of the Yolo County Library after the passage of Proposition 13 in 1979. A group of concerned citizens understood the importance of a library to the education and well-being of a small rural community and decided to do something about it. The group raised funds and advocated for the continued operation of a Yolo County Library branch here in Winters. As the community grew, the group responded to the need for library support and lifelong learning opportunities. Winters Friends of the Library incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1985. WFoL members worked for over ten years to advocate and raise funds for a much-needed new library and increases in library hours and services. Our beautiful Winters Community Library opened in November 2009. We celebrated our “new library’s” tenth anniversary in 2019 and continue to adapt, innovate, and grow to strengthen the our library and community. Visit wfol.org to read more about our programs, become a member, and donate.

A fun virtual learning opportunity with UC Master Gardeners of Yolo County!

Kitchen Garden Chat: Summer Fruit Tree Pruning. August 1, 2026 from 10:00am to 11:00am. Venue: via zoom

New and experienced gardeners alike are welcome to join UC Master Gardener of Yolo County Treva Valentine to chat about summer fruit tree pruning especially apricot and cherry and starting the winter garden. Each month, Treva takes a science-based approach to what kitchen gardeners should be planting, what they should be harvesting, what pests they should expect and how to deal with them, and what chores should be on their gardening to-do lists. Questions about edibles are welcome and encouraged!

Treva, a master gardener in Yolo County for 30 years, has been leading Kitchen Garden Chats since 2019. A retired veterinarian, she lives on a small, 20-acre farm in Woodland, California.
