Consider joining Creek Keepers Club — a new afterschool program designed to connect WHS students to Putah Creek!

This program is completely free, and no previous experience or knowledge is required.

Putah Creek is home to a wide variety of native species including eagles, egrets, river otters, beavers, bobcats, monarch butterflies, a natal chinook salmon population, and so many more! 🐟

Teeming with native wildlife, this small but mighty creek shows what is possible when a community comes together to care for their local waterway.

Thank you to everyone who came out and volunteered at this year’s Coastal Clean-up Day! 💙

Our team of hardworking volunteers picked up roughly 3,229 items including 468 cigarette butts and 1,435 pieces of plastic!

We appreciate everyone taking the time to care for their local creek! Now the local critters can enjoy a clean home, and healthier waterway.

Special shout-out to UC Davis College Corps for bringing out such an enthusiastic and dedicated crew!

Wendell Berry reminded us of the peace of wild things, and the ways that spending time outdoors can remind us of our place in the world. After all, nature isn’t something that exists outside of us — we are nature, too.

We care for Putah Creek as we care for our neighbors, and believe that we as humans have a responsibility to be stewards of our planet — not just for our human communities, but our nonhuman kin as well. As this family of deer reminds us, this is their home, too.

Thank you to everyone who supports us and our work — whether by coming out and working or volunteering with us in the field, donating time or resources, or engaging with us and sharing the story of Putah Creek.

Aaaaand that’s a wrap for the Summer 2026 OneCreek Seasonal Restoration Technician season! The team this season was especially tough, facing challenges such as 90+ degree heat and dusty ground conditions. Despite that, we had fun and networked with a variety of partners in August, including: Yolo Basin Foundation, Yolo Resource Conservation District, Cache Creek Conservancy, two private landowners, a California Native Plant Society ambassador, the UC Davis Arboretum & Public Gardens, and Hedgerow Farms.

We’ll work with some of the same (and some different!) partners for the fall season. The application period is open now until September 7th.

Thank you to the hardworking summer team, and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you!

OneCreek Seasonal Restoration Technician applications are open NOW until
Monday, September 7th for the fall season!

OneCreek is a great entry-level, skills-developing program for those who
are interested in a career in habitat restoration and/or environmental
management. Not only will you work directly with Putah Creek Council staff,
but you’ll network with other regional habitat restoration organizations as
well.

It’s also just super fun, and a great way to connect with like-minded young
professionals. ;)

Those who are interested, but unavailable this fall, can look forward to
more opportunities to join the team for a future season!

Kinda chic to attend the 42nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 19th from 9AM-12PM! 🚮

Putah Creek Council will be doing a targeted clean-up in downtown Winters, where we removed ~500 lbs of trash and other large debris in April. We hope to keep our watershed clean and healthy by continuing upkeep of the area. This would not be possible without our wonderful community volunteers!

Snacks and supplies will be provided!
