Our core mission is to inspire love of Putah Creek, its wildlife and natural habitats, and promote their protection and restoration through advocacy, education, and community-based stewardship.

Integral to this mission is establishing and fostering connections between people and nature — especially youth. When people know and feel connected to nature nearby, they are more likely to protect it, and reinvest their energy into their local environment and communities.

In a world with so much to feel overwhelmed about, we encourage you to slow down, take a breath, and find ways to intentionally connect with the natural world around you — starting with your local creek 💙

We had a great time this session working with our Spring OneCreek cohort!

For the past 8-weeks, this hardworking team tackled a variety of tasks related to restoring the Putah Creek watershed and its surrounding habitats.

Working with various partner organizations, our restoration technicians gained firsthand experience removing invasive species, installing & fixing irrigation systems, propagating native plants, and so much more!

When reflecting on their experience, OneCreekers mentioned how nice it was to actually work in the habitats they are studying in the classroom, translating their academic knowledge into field experience.
Now they are experts on the Putah Creek watershed, and we can’t wait to see where their journey takes them next!

Our Summer OneCreek applications are filling up, however, we offer the OneCreek program each season. Be sure to check back in when we announce applications are open for fall!

For any questions, feel free to send us a DM or email [email protected]

In the summer of 1989, Putah Creek ran dry.

What followed was a decade-long fight over water rights, led in part by Putah Creek Council—a coalition of creek lovers, scientists, and advocates working to bring life back to the creek.

On May 23, 2000, that work resulted in the Putah Creek Accord: a landmark agreement that ensures water is released to sustain permanent flows and support wildlife habitat.

Today, we continue that legacy by restoring habitat, protecting the creek’s ecosystems, and educating the next generation of environmental stewards.

If you’d like to support this work, you can donate through the link in our bio or join us at an upcoming volunteer event.

Happy World Bee Day to the magnificent pollinators of Putah Creek 🐝

Did you know California has around 1,600 native bee species, with hundreds found in Yolo County alone. Along Putah Creek, native bumble bees like Bombus fervidus, Bombus melanopygus, and Bombus vandykei help pollinate wild plants, sustain biodiversity and support healthy ecosystems.

Today join us in celebrating some of the creek’s fuzziest and hardest-working residents 💛

Just another beautiful day along Putah Creek 🌊

For those wanting to come see Putah Creek in person, consider visiting Winters Putah Creek Nature Park! Located near downtown Winters, this stretch of the creek is teeming with riparian wildlife and shows the power of long term restoration efforts.

In the summertime, you’ll often find families swimming along the creek or taking a picnic break under the willow trees. Just remember to pack in and out any items and trash you bring!

For more information regarding public access points along Putah Creek, visit our website (link in bio!)

Happy Endangered Species Day 💚

Today we’re highlighting a few of the species found along Putah Creek that are listed as endangered, threatened, or species of special concern in California.

From Chinook salmon to burrowing owls, these species are part of what makes this watershed so special—and a reminder of why protecting it matters.

Our OneCreek team recently worked with to remove invasive species along Putah Creek including black mustard, yellow star thistle, and cattails!

OneCreek is our paid, 8 week seasonal restoration technician program geared towards folks interested in pursuing habitat restoration as a career. We work with a variety of partners across Yolo & Solano Counties on a wide range of different projects.

Applications for our summer cohort are due June 5th.

Thank you for showing up for Putah Creek 💚

During this year’s Big Day of Giving, our community came together to support our favorite local creek—and that support goes directly back into the work happening here.

From restoring habitat and supporting wildlife through native plantings and invasive species removal, to leading hands-on education programs that connect people of all ages to the creek, this work is only possible because of you.

Putah Creek has come a long way, and we’re so grateful to have a community that continues to show up for it.

Thank you for being part of it 💙
