Congratulations on retirement to both K9 Guinness and Corporal Paul Martin of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office! Enjoy your retirement!! ๐๐ฅณ๐๐พ๐
After nearly nine years of service, our fluffiest floof is officially hanging up his vest. K-9 Guinness and his handler, Corporal Paul Martin, are both heading into a well-earned retirement.
Guinness joined our K-9 Unit in 2017 at just one year old. In their time together, he and Corporal Martin located over 120 people, including one standout case from 2022: a domestic battery suspect who barged into a neighbor's home to evade deputies, ran upstairs, and thought hiding under a mattress was going to cut it. Guinness's nose disagreed.
Beyond patrol work, Guinness was also certified as an Explosive Detector Canine in 2018. His nose has swept Valspar, Gasparilla, air shows, collegiate national championship football games, numerous presidential visits, an Allegiant plane, and Dunedin Blue Jays games. That last one may have been his personal favorite, given his well-documented love of a good baseball to play with.
Now, bomb sweeps are out. Lounging, walks, and treats are very much in. Our K-9s live at home with their handlers, and in retirement they stay with them for the rest of their lives. Guinness gets to keep his person full-time, because Corporal Martin is retiring right alongside him.
Congratulations to K-9 Guinness and Corporal Paul Martin on a career well served. You've more than earned it.
