Congratulations to 2nd Vice Regent Kathy Kern for winning 1st Place for “America 250” in the Juried Crealde Art School Show this week!
Inspired by the NSDAR American Heritage competition challenge, the angry snake represents the betrayal American Farmers felt towards the British Empire elite whom they thought they had escaped. Mrs. Kern hopes the sculpture inspires curiosity to learn about the tax stamps on the die and Hard Cyder jug, what happened under the Liberty Tree, and the Constitution that united people who respected the right to disagree. Was it worth it? Yes. It started a process that ended slavery, gave women the right to flee domestic violence with custody of their kids, the right to own property and vote. Eventually the Civil Rights Movement gave us economic freedom too. Despite the messiness and chaos, we lit a path for the rest of the world to follow, as represented by the Statue of Liberty Torch stopper on top of the jug.
