Saturday, October 24: Join Tarflower FNPS for Backyard Biodiversity Day at Mead Botanical Garden—featuring the Florida Native Plant Sale, speakers, guided hikes, demonstrations, kids’ activities, vendors, and community partners.

Learn on Friday. Explore, connect, and be inspired on Saturday—and support Tarflower by bringing home a few native plants.

Plant sale proceeds support upland habitat restoration at Mead Botanical Garden and native landscapes across Central Florida.

Led by Dr. Heather Kalaman, Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Agent with UF/IFAS Extension Orange County, and members of the Tar Flower Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, this program includes a classroom presentation, a guided native plant walk through our 4-acre demonstration gardens, and potted native plants and seeds. 🌿 Sunday Restoration Workday — Thank you to everyone who joined us!

We had a wonderful morning at Mead Botanical Garden, continuing our work in the Scrubby Flatwoods—a rare native Florida habitat we are actively restoring—and adding more native plants back into the landscape. 🌱

On August 16, volunteers came together to plant native trees and shrubs throughout the restoration area, helping rebuild habitat for wildlife and strengthen the garden’s ecological future.

A truly special moment of the day was the planting and dedication of a chinkapin oak in honor of our beloved Peggy Sias Lantz. This tree now stands as a living tribute to her lasting impact and deep love for Florida’s native landscapes. 🌳💚
