We are thrilled to announce our 2026 Jacksonville Breakthrough T1D Walk Rookie of the Year: Grateful Alive! This first-year team has raised $3,921, earning them the #9 spot (as of 4/30).

Jonathan was diagnosed with T1D in July 2024 just weeks before his 38th birthday. He and his wife Jaime are beyond grateful for the medical advancements that keep him alive (insulin, insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors), we also dream of a cure and know the science is getting closer and closer.

Thank you, Team Grateful Alive, for leading the way as our Rookie of the Year! We can’t wait to celebrate all of our teams, new and returning, Saturday!

We are thrilled to announce our 2026 Fund A Cure Champions for the Orlando Gala: The Lombardo Family!

Mike, Kate, Gavin and Giana Lombardo’s journey with type 1 diabetes began in the summer of 2021, just before Giana’s 5th birthday. When telltale symptoms of type 1 began to arise, Kate took her to the doctor where a simple blood test led to her diagnosis. While they were grateful to catch it early and avoid severe complications and hospitalization, the year that followed was one of the most challenging of their lives.

Early on, they found comfort and guidance through their connection with the Pape family, who understood their journey and helped welcome them into the T1D community. Through Breakthrough T1D, the Lombardos have found a true sense of belonging -- building relationships, attending walks and galas, and holding onto hope through every research breakthrough.

We are honored to share their story on November 7! To learn more about the Lombardo Family, and the Orlando gala, visit: https://www.breakthrought1d.org/northernflorida/events/breakthrough-t1d-orlando-imagine-gala-2026/

Why I Walk Wednesday 💙

This week we are highlighting Gabe Pereverzoff! He has been living with Type 1 since he was nine years old. Gabe's Mom Says "Gabe takes everything in his life and crushes it. He is so responsible and makes type one diabetes look easy (which it is not)." Gabe and his family enjoy giving back while helping fund a cure.

We can't wait to walk with Gabe and his Family this Saturday!

Jacksonville: Will you be joining us for the T1D Parade before the walk?! 🎉

As part of the opening ceremony, we will gather ALL of our T1D champions to parade. We will honor each champion by how many years they’ve been a T1D warrior and celebrate!

Meeting time is 8:50AM to the right of the stage – look for the sign! Please plan for extra time on Walk Day to ensure your champion is there and ready to line up with the help of our volunteers. After the parade, there will be time for T1D champions to return to their teams before the ribbon cutting, so all families can walk the route together.

You don’t want to miss this!
