Leadership Winter Park Youth Leaders program is Central Florida's premier leadership program for students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in high school. The program is designed to expose students to opportunities for leadership within their community. Two sessions are available each summer, one in June and a second in July. Session topics include team building, arts and culture in

Winter Park, media and communications, law and government and a day for career exploration and mentoring. The program concludes with a graduation ceremony for the student and their family.

We need volunteers to help with the 72nd Annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 6:00 – 11:00 a.m. You’ll meet at the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and assist our events team with the parade. Law and Government day gave our Youth Leaders the opportunity to participate in a mock trail with the Orange County Courthouse, and go behind the scenes with the Winter Park Fire-Rescue Department and Winter Park Police Department.

Community appreciation day for session two of our Youth Leaders offered them a new perspective of our city. The students learned what makes Winter Park unique on the Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour and a docent-led tour of The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. They also participated in a community service project creating 116 welcome snack packs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida. Learning about opportunities to be of service in the community and becoming part of the conversation to solve community issues is a pillar of their introduction to leadership.

Youth Leaders 2024 Session Two is underway. Our high school leaders spent day one participating in icebreaker activities, a StrengthsFinder assessment, learning effective public speaking. Youth Leaders Session Day 5 sponsored by Winter Park College Consultants wrapped up the program by encouraging students to look ahead! This day is designed to expose students to possible career paths, learn inside tips on the college admissions process and celebrate their leadership development.

Students began the day with a Career Insight Panel led by Leadership Winter Park Alumni and Winter Park Chamber of Commerce Members.

Following the panel, Angela Worswick led the students in a Thank You Card Writing Workshop where each organization and community partner who made this week a success was acknowledged.

Ann LaFemina from Winter Park College Consultants then led the students and their parents in Selective College Admissions: Stand OUT! Get IN!, a college admission workshop to help students prepare for the college admission process.

The week was concluded with a graduation ceremony where Jonah Downs and Julia Gardner were recognized as the outstanding Youth Leaders of this session. Thank you to Kona Ice of Winter Park for helping the Youth Leaders celebrate their accomplishments with a sweet treat!

Youth Leaders Session Day 4 sponsored by Beacon Pointe Wealth Advisors was an action-packed day! The Law & Government Day is designed to show students how local government works for its citizens and the services it provides.

Students engaged in interactive tours with Winter Park Police Department and Winter Park Fire-Rescue Department to gain a deeper understanding of the emergency services they provide our community.

Then, students took the SunRail to the Orange County Courthouse to immerse themselves in a mock trial with real judges and attorneys. Thank you to Leadership Winter Park Alumni Andrew Ivrin and Donald Carbon for leading the mock trial.

There is one more day left for the first session of Winter Park Chamber of Commerce Youth Leader program. Thank you to Michelle and Ryan DeVos for presenting both sessions of Youth Leaders this summer!
