August has been a busy month for community partnerships! This month, we...

🔆 Attended Light Orlando's Lunch and Learn Series at The Dream Center to learn more about the powerful work that Central Florida Hope Center is doing with their food pantry, immigration services, and thrift store in Clermont.
⛲ Listened to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer give his last State of the City address at the Plaza Live.
🛒 Visited The Desire Foundation inc's BRAND-NEW space in Parramore with a store for food and essential household items and a neighboring co-working office space for community organizations (like ours!) to serve the residents of Parramore all in one spot. We're looking forward to the Parramore Market's grand opening on September 15!
📀 Tabled at Park Ave CDs' August Community Day with 10% of all the day's sales going back to the Adult Literacy League. Seeing a physical media store packed like sardines in 2026 (and benefiting adult learners, no less) truly warmed our hearts.

No classroom? No problem!

When Peyton's English class at the Sanford library was canceled for two weeks due to early voting in the library's classroom space, the group decided to still meet elsewhere: the combination Kelly's Homemade Ice Cream and Foxtail Coffee just a block away! 🍦☕

The employees were kind enough to let the class borrow a couple of menus to review vocabulary like flavors, ingredients and cup sizes. Then, the class practiced asking, "Can I try ___?" to sample different ice cream flavors. Peyton agreed to buy everyone's scoop under one condition: every student needed to place their order in English by themselves. 😜 Finally, students were asked to use adjectives to describe their treat to the rest of the class: is it sweet? Creamy? Crunchy? Smooth? Fruity? Rich?
