Adult Literacy League

Last week, the ALL leadership team took a little field trip to Jacksonville to meet up with Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida! 📚

We loved getting to swap ideas and hear how they're supporting adult learners in their community! We can't wait to return the favor when they come visit us in Orlando. ❤

We are just TWO WEEKS away from our new signature event, The City BEEautiful Spelling Bee!

In honor of the upcoming bee, we decided to ask our staff about their school spelling bee experiences 🐝🤔

Make sure to secure your tickets now by clickling the link below: https://www.adultliteracyleague.org/buy-tickets/

How'd you do in your school spelling bee? This is a safe space to be vulnerable. 😅

Let books be.

Today kicks off , an annual observation started more than 40 years ago in response to a sudden surge in the number of attempts to censor or remove books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. Sound familiar?

Today, libraries continue to face record numbers of challenges to the books on their shelves. And contrary to common narratives suggesting that concerned parents are driving these challenges, data from ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom suggests otherwise – 92% of these challenges came from pressure groups and government officials in 2025.

For this year's Banned Books Week, we remind our communities that a handful of people running organized censorship campaigns should not be allowed to dictate what the rest of us can read, and that the joy and creativity of reading is not only an act of resistance, but a freedom that must be protected.

Find ways to get involved and spread the word, censorship data, and events throughout the week at https://bit.ly/4yvixbB.

Throwback Thursday! 📸

This is Vince, our very first ESOL instructor teaching ALL's first ever ESOL class. 20 years later, he's still here, still teaching and still changing lives. Thank you, Vince, for showing our students the power of learning English! ❤🎉

Current and former students: what's your favorite memory from Vince's class? Share in the comments below!

We are so grateful for our students and volunteers who go out of their way to spread the word about ALL in their community, like our ALL board member, Michael!

That's nearly 1 in 5 adults in our state who struggle to read every day.

Literacy shapes the community we live in — from obtaining better employment, to asking the right questions at medical appointments, to simply being able to read to your children or grandchildren.

Want to be part of the mission to spread literacy across Central Florida? Volunteer as a tutor, donate to support our programs, attend our upcoming spelling bee, or simply share this post to spread awareness. Click the link below to get started!

Orlando’s future may depend on an investment as simple — and powerful — as putting a book in a child’s hands. >> See the full article below ⬇️
