Amendment 3 could change Florida’s future. Our water is already under threat: Pumped, paved-over and polluted. The next potential blow is the loss of property tax revenue.

The facts:
- If passed, Amendment 3 will shortchange water management district funding by nearly $200 million in 2030.
- Property taxes fund our water, from the pumps that move flood waters off our streets to the pipes that deliver drinking water to our faucets.
- Without a plan, lawmakers may create new taxes, fees or assessments to cover the costs, affecting our wallets as soon as the next budget year.

Seventy-five years ago, a group of scientists formed The Nature Conservancy to protect threatened natural areas through direct action—often working with local communities to purchase lands outright. Our preserves don't just protect nature, they make an impact on people's lives. Story time:

Steve "Sticky" Morrison became Tiger Creek Preserve's first caretaker and spent more than 30 years managing the preserve. In the 1990s, he mentored Student Conservation Association intern Adam Peterson, who is now TNC in Florida's Fire Manager. True to his roots, Adam hired SCA intern Ryann Blennerhassett, who followed a similar path and now leads stewardship at Tiger Creek Preserve.

Inspired by the preserve's history, Ryann says, “It's inspiring to see the impact that consistent, long-term stewardship can have on the land.”

What makes Florida estuaries different from other states? Mangroves. These trees love warm, tropical and subtropical regions, with a balance between fresh and salt water. Just as they need that balance, so do we need their ecosystem services: their protective power against storm surge and flooding and the unique way they capture carbon from our atmosphere. https://nature.ly/4h6h8Rm

Mangrove forests protect Florida's coast from storm surges & erosion, and provide space for wildlife & recreation. We're restoring mangroves for all to enjoy.

No two estuaries are the same. Take a moment to appreciate the beautiful diversity of Florida’s coastal areas:
- Marshes of Cumberland Sound at the mouth of the St. Marys river, which makes up the northeast Florida/southeast Georgia border,
- Mangroves at their northernmost range at Mosquito Lagoon near Canaveral National Seashore in central-east Florida,
- Mangrove and sea grapes in South Florida at TNC’s Blowing Rocks Preserve,
- Oyster reefs of Pensacola East Bay, a restoration project led by The Nature Conservancy with local partners.
