Helen Morse and the Era of Expectations 1910 – 1926
Our Speaker will be Howard Vincent Kurtz, costume historian and textile curator highlighting the life of Helen Morse and the social changes that set the decades in motion.
Howard Vincent Kurtz is Professor Emeritus of Theater at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where he served as the Resident Costume Designer and head of the Design and Tech program. While at Mason, Howard was also the Associate Curator of Costumes and Textiles at Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens, the former home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, in Washington, DC. He is the author of many national and international publications on fashion and lectures on topics related to historical dress. Howard is a member of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology, United Scenic Artists, Local 829, and a Fellow of the Costume Society of America. This past year he assisted the Morse Museum of American Art, cataloging costumes and accessories from the personal collections of the Morse, Genius, and McKean families.
