Back-to-school season is all about showing up for our community 🎒💛

The Winter Park Health Foundation was proud to help students, teachers, and families kick off the school year with a range of efforts and events.

WPHF’s Crosby Wellness Center collected school supply donations for Killarney Elementary School, we joined Town of Eatonville Florida and Hungerford Elementary School leaders to welcome students for their first day, and we treated Dommerich Elementary School teachers to a complimentary cooking class at the Center for Health & Wellbeing, where they got to eat the recipes they learned!

We are grateful to have been part of the moments that help schools in our community start back strong. We wish students, educators, and families a great year ahead!

Starting this school year, a nurse practitioner will be in place at Hungerford Elementary School in Eatonville to see students at no cost to families, regardless of insurance coverage.

This is the third School-Based Health Center (SBHC) funded by the Winter Park Health Foundation, joining our established SBHCs at Glenridge Middle School and Winter Park High School. Healthcare Providers of Florida manages all three centers.

Available services include:
• Physicals
• Flu, strep, and other tests
• Diagnosis and treatment
• Prescriptions
• Specialist referrals

Any student from our 14 designated schools (see slide 4 for full list) can receive care at any one of our three centers. The same free health services are also available to those students' siblings up to 18 years old, as well as children who attend daycare, private schools, or charter schools in Eatonville, Maitland, or Winter Park.

This initiative is part of the Coordinated Youth Initiative (CYI), WPHF's 30-year partnership with Orange County Public Schools (Orange County Public Schools), through which WPHF has invested more than $24 million to support student health.

We are proud to be able to expand this effort, and we thank our partners for working with us to help bring care to even more kids throughout our community.

Come with us on a tour of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida 🥒

WPHF’s Director of Human Resources, Antoinette McNair, met with Second Harvest’s Volunteer Manager, Ian Dixon, to learn more about the organization’s work and impact across our community.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a private, nonprofit organization that collects, stores, and distributes food to a network of more than 800 feeding partners across seven counties: Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia.

Antoinette recently organized a Winter Park Health Foundation team volunteer day at Second Harvest (stay tuned for photos!), supporting its mission to create hope and nourish lives through a powerful hunger relief network. This effort aligns closely with WPHF’s Food Is Health pillar, which recognizes the critical connection between nutritious food and overall health and wellbeing.

Better habits lead to better health ✨ That's the philosophy behind lifestyle medicine and the reason the Winter Park Health Foundation contributed $25,000 last year to support a pilot program for cardiac patients designed in partnership with 4Roots' Culinary Health Institute and AdventHealth.

WPHF funding paid the program costs for referred patients who otherwise would not have been able to take part in the 12-week opportunity, which activated all pillars of the Center for Health & Wellbeing.

Not only did participants receive culinary education, medically tailored meals, and produce boxes, they also benefited from fitness memberships and personal training at WPHF’s Crosby Wellness Center, as well as a series of behavioral health and other consultations.

Randall's story, seen in this video, is just one example of the power of this partnership.

Thank you to everyone who joined this effort:
🔹 AdventHealth
🔹 4Roots' Culinary Health Institute (CHI)
🔹 Florida Blue
🔹 Gordon Food Service

We are also excited to share that the Winter Park Health Foundation is investing an additional $50,000 to expand the program, with a matching $50,000 grant from the Ardmore Institute of Health.

Here's to helping even more people make the changes they need to get and stay healthy!

Cheers to 30 years! 🎉 Please join us in celebrating Winter Park Health Foundation Controller Robin Parent.

Robin oversees financial reporting, human resources, and accounting system safeguards and controls at WPHF. After starting her career at a local CPA firm, she worked as the controller for pharmacy and home healthcare organizations before beginning her role at WPHF.

Robin says this milestone reminds her “how much we can accomplish when we listen to one another, stay committed to our purpose, and move forward together.”

She says she has learned that “meaningful community work requires the ability to listen, adapt, and grow as the needs of the community change.”

We are so grateful for Robin and all the time, thought, and effort she has dedicated to the Foundation these past three decades.

Happy WPHF anniversary, Robin! 🌟

Collaboration doesn’t just happen in meetings. It grows through shared experiences. 🌱

Last week, members of our WPHF Operations Team spent an afternoon at 4Roots Farm, the home base of one of our valued community impact partners.

We enjoyed a farm tour, a mocktail-making class, and even more importantly, the opportunity to connect outside the office and strengthen the relationships that help us do our best work.

Thank you to the 4Roots team for welcoming us!
