CIL in Central Florida

We are a private, non-profit organization that was founded by Central Floridians dedicated to helping people with disabilities.

CIL is a cross-disability service agency with a mission to create opportunities for disability inclusion. It serves individuals with any type of disability of any age residing in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Polk, Hardee, Highlands, and DeSoto counties. CIL has two office locations dedicated to serving the Central Florida region, each of which have specific programs and services available to their surrounding community.

But behind every device is something much bigger.

FAAST works across Florida to increase access to assistive technology for people with disabilities, and we're incredibly grateful for their continued investment in our community.

For others, they can present real challenges.

Fortunately, something as simple as the right assistive technology can make all the difference.

A medication opener can restore confidence.

A reading pen can unlock printed information.

For this week's Tech Tuesday, we're taking a closer look at the GoTalk 4+, a portable augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device designed to give users another way to express their wants, needs, choices and ideas.

The GoTalk 4+ uses large, easy-to-activate buttons that can be customized with recorded messages and paired with words, pictures, symbols, or photographs.

And because the messages can be customized, the device can support communication at school, at home, at work, or out in the community.

A new school year. A new journey. A future full of possibilities.

As students across Central Florida head back to school, we're celebrating a group of young adults who are beginning an exciting new chapter of their own!

Project SEARCH is officially underway in Lakeland in partnership with Lakeland Regional Health

For these young adults, this year will look a little different. Instead of preparing only in a traditional classroom, they'll have opportunities to build workplace skills, gain hands-on experience, discover their strengths, and prepare for meaningful employment.

And that's exactly what programs like Project SEARCH and Aspire to Hire are all about...helping young people with disabilities turn the question of "What's next?" into a future they can begin building for themselves.
