Join Toxics 101, a virtual educational session designed to help nurses and healthcare professionals better understand the connection between climate change, toxic chemical exposure, and human health.

Participants will explore current science surrounding chemicals such as PFAS, their potential health effects, and practical ways healthcare professionals can communicate these risks with patients, colleagues, communities, and policymakers.

❤️ Building Partnerships, Inspiring Future Nurses, and Advancing Latino Health!

Late Post: I had the privilege of meeting with Representative Johanna López, and we had an incredible conversation about opportunities to collaborate and strengthen the health and well-being of the Latino community in Orange County.

As the President of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), Central Florida Chapter, I deeply value her commitment to representation and the importance of ensuring that our communities have a voice in the spaces where decisions are made.

At NAHN, we share this vision. We are passionate about introducing students to nursing careers, inspiring the next generation of diverse healthcare professionals, and empowering young people to see themselves as future leaders in healthcare.

During our meeting, we also had the pleasure of presenting Representative López with a small token of appreciation in recognition of her role as the keynote speaker at our recent Awards and Scholarships Luncheon. Her words were truly inspirational and resonated deeply with our nursing students, award recipients, and guests.

Thank you, Representative López, for your time, your leadership, and your commitment to our community. We look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership and working together to create a healthier, more equitable future for all.

🎉💃 Salud y Salsa Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration is officially in the books, and what an incredible success it was! ❤️

The National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), Central Florida Chapter, was proud to bring our community together for an afternoon of health education, movement, connection, and celebration.

Through our health education activities, we highlighted the importance of physical activity and its positive impact on heart health, mental well-being, and overall health. We believe that making healthy choices can be fun, engaging, and something we can enjoy together as a community!

A special thank you to Salsa Heat for hosting us and providing an unforgettable salsa lesson that got everyone moving and celebrating!

🚨 September is Sepsis Awareness Month. Knowledge can help protect nuestra comunidad! 🚨

Sepsis is the body’s extreme response to an infection—a life-threatening medical emergency. NAHN Central Florida wants you to know the numbers:

📊 Hispanic communities and sepsis:
• Sepsis-related hospitalization rates increased 34.8% between 2019 and 2021—the largest percentage increase among the racial and ethnic groups studied.
• Hospital mortality rates for Hispanic patients admitted primarily for sepsis increased 64.3% during that period. This means the rate increased—not that 64.3% of patients died.
• In 2021, hospital stays for patients admitted primarily for sepsis averaged 10.3 days for Hispanic patients, compared with 8.6 days for non-Hispanic White patients.
• That year, Hispanic people in the most socially vulnerable communities had approximately 45% higher sepsis-related hospitalization rates than those in less vulnerable communities: 558 versus 385 stays per 100,000 people.

These findings include the COVID-19 pandemic period and do not mean Hispanic ethnicity itself causes sepsis.

Across ALL ethnicities, about 1.7 million U.S. adults develop sepsis each year. At least 350,000 die during hospitalization or are discharged to hospice.

⚠️ Know the warning signs:
• New confusion or disorientation
• Shortness of breath
• Clammy or sweaty skin
• Extreme pain or discomfort
• Fever, shivering, or feeling very cold
• Fast heart rate or weak pulse

⏰ Suspect sepsis? Seek emergency medical care immediately. Ask: “Could this be sepsis?” / “¿Podría ser sepsis?”

💚 Save this post and share it with your family. Knowing the signs and acting quickly can save lives.
