LIFTing the Disability Family

BOOST is a 2-hour monthly program of Lift Disability Network geared toward families and individuals impacted by disability. Currently this program is offered in multiple locations in Central Florida (and St. Louis, Missouri). A typical program draws 30-90 people per location each month. Each BOOST includes a free meal, adaptive recreation or activities, and a time of inspiration. BOOST is a primarily volunteer managed event; volunteers serve as crew leads or buddies. Each individual with a disability is assigned a personal buddy for the evening with a typical ratio being one-on-one. Families attend the program together, but caregivers have the ability to connect with each other as volunteer buddies serve their family members. Additionally, church, community and corporate groups are offered the opportunity to sponsor and serve at one or more monthly events in order to serve and to learn from the disability community. LDN seeks to build personal wholeness for people living with disability in five key areas, and the goals of the BOOST program address three of these arenas: 1. Emotional Wholeness- To help families and individuals increase their potential by coaching them how to move past their self-limiting definitions of disability. 2. Relational Wholeness - To provide relational opportunities for caregivers and people living with disability to engage in a supportive community. 3. Physical Wholeness -To offer adaptive recreation and activities to people living with disability. The effectiveness of the BOOST program is assessed by both quantitative and qualitative measures. These measures include: 1. Overall program attendance by participants 2. Overall program attendance by volunteers. 3. Overall program attendance by group sponsors. 4. Number of new families or individuals attending each month. 5. Overall program funding by individual donors. 6. Overall program funding by group donors. 7. Specific stories of personal success due to emotional, relational or physical skills improved at a BOOST program. 8. Number of and variety of adaptive recreation and activities offered to participants.
