We had a blast at this years Blue Ridge Wilkes Klondike Derby! We had 9 Troops represented amongst 8 sleds! Thank you to the countless volunteers and adult leaders that helped make our event possible and helped prepare your youth for the competition. Be on the lookout for more information about the next Klondike Derby. We may be going to Grandfather Mountain!

Blue Ridge/Wilkes Klondike Derby POSTPONED AGAIN

Due to the weather forecast of heavy rains Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week, the Council and District leadership have concluded that we will be postponing the Blue Ridge/Wilkes Klondike Derby to February 17th. The time and location of the Klondike will remain the same as previously planned for January 20th. For any unit that registered under the late fee price of $15 per person we will be working to issue a refund of $5 per person.

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Wayne Leroy Brown (Rural Hall, North Carolina), who passed away on January 23, 2024 at the age of 80. Wayne served as the Field Director/Assistant Scout Executive for the council for 35 years when he retired in 2006.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Rural Hall Chapel - Hayworth-Miller Funeral Homes & Crematory (305 Bethania-Rural Hall Rd, Rural Hall, NC 27045). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.

Blue Ridge/Wilkes Klondike Derby POSTPONED

Due to the weather forecast of a HIGH of 26° with average winds of 14 mph, a morning LOW around 17 degrees, plus a wind chill factor, the Council and District leadership have concluded that we will be postponing the Blue Ridge/Wilkes Klondike Derby to January 27th. The time and location of the Klondike will remain the same as previously planned for January 20th.

Date: January 19-20th
Place: Camp Harrison
Ages: Webelos-18yrs old
Day of Check-in: 8:30am
Cost: $5 (Early Bird to Dec 9th) $10 (Normal to Jan 13th) $15 (Late Jan 14-19th)
Opening Ceremony: 9:30am
Lunch: 12-1pm
Closing: 5pm

Optional Night before camping check-in: 6:30pm
(There is an option to camp the night before at Camp Harrison this year. If your troop wants to camp the night before they must follow proper cold weather camping techniques and use proper gear for cold weather. Units must also provide their own two-deep leadership and food for the night before. The Klondike staff will not be responsible for providing food or two-deep leadership the night before Klondike)

Events for 2024

First Aid, Knots, BB shooting, Fire Starting/ Cooking, Sled Timing, Survivor Games, Map Skills Game, Lego Building game/memory challenge, Leave no trace/ Outdoor Code game, Skits and Songs (Lost/Stranded at sea/on an island)

Sled Guidlines

Sleds must be a minimum of 4’x1 ½’ and must be able to seat and hold an adult of 140 lbs or more . Sleds that don't meet this minimum requirement will be docked points for their final score.

Shout out to Troop and Pack 221 for their service to the Jefferson community this weekend. The Pack and Troop had Scouts staying overnight at Jefferson Museum to watch over the American flags that were placed in the yard in honor of those lost during 9/11 and the war on terror. #911
