Last month, LEAD Girls closed on our permanent home 🎉 This is milestone that reflects how far we’ve come and our vision for the girls we serve!

We want to give a special thank you to Kelly M. Otis of Baker Donelson for guiding us through the closing process and helping make this milestone possible.

We’re in the early stages of preparing the space for its next chapter and look forward to sharing more as plans take shape!

Board of Directors Spotlight ⭐ Meet Jasmine Pitt!

Jasmine is a Shareholder at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC, where she practices commercial litigation. Her journey was forged at Wake Forest University, where she earned both her undergraduate and law degrees. Deeply grateful for the mentorship that shaped her path, Jasmine is passionately committed to paying it forward, dedicating herself to uplifting and guiding others in their own professional and personal development.

Jasmine’s heart and soul is giving back to her community. She thrives on empowering the next generation, actively mentoring law students (with a special focus on first-generation and minority students), judging moot court competitions, and diving into leadership development programs. She is excited to serve with LEAD Girls and to work towards its mission.

Nadiya, our Program Coordinator, is guiding girls through lessons that help them discover their strengths, use their voices, and envision their futures. Each lesson connects personal growth with leadership, helping girls see how their choices can shape their lives and communities.

What does it take for every young person in Winston-Salem to feel supported, seen, and equipped to thrive? LEAD Girls is thrilled that our executive director, Joy Nelson-Thomas, is joining Leadership Winston-Salem's The State of Our Youth panel discussion on October 30th to discuss this topic with other leaders in our city.

Together, panelists will explore issues impacting young people in Winston-Salem, share perspectives from their work in the community, and highlight opportunities to step up and make a difference.

Our Leadership Expo is back this October, and this year’s experience was inspired by one of our very own LEAD Ambassadors, Zion!

Zion came to us with the idea for an “IT Girl Experience” a space where girls could focus on confidence, self-care, personal growth, and becoming the best version of themselves. We loved the idea and incorporated her vision into this year’s Leadership Expo.

Last Friday was the first of two nights in the experience. The theme was LIVE IT, focused on self-care and wellness. Our next session will be BECOME IT, focused on personal branding and future readiness. Through hands-on activities and conversations with professionals, girls will explore who they are, how they care for themselves, and who they are becoming.

And perhaps our favorite part? The idea started with a girl.

At LEAD, we don't just encourage girls to use their voices. We want them to see what can happen when they do. Zion shared an idea, we listened, and together we're bringing it to life. That is leadership 💗

Every LEAD Girl has her own story, strengths, and dreams. Our team takes the time to know each girl and create opportunities that help her grow. Program Coordinator Nadiya is part of that work, helping girls explore their interests, recognize their strengths, and see what’s possible for their futures.

We're excited to share that LEAD Girls of NC was recognized by AES Restaurants / Arby's at their Day of Giving Celebration on Wednesday, September 30 with a $10,000 grant! AES Restaurants is the second-largest Arby's franchisee and one of America's premier restaurant operators. It employs over 8,000 people in 20 states. Founded in 2020, the AES Foundation's mission is to support programs that strengthen, enhance, and enrich the lives of people in the communities they call home.

Board of Directors Spotlight ✨ Meet Vanessa Miller 💕 Vanessa serves as the dedicated Community Outreach Manager for Goodwill, with extensive experience coordinating volunteer programs and managing community spaces to foster engagement and collaboration.

With a strong passion for building relationships and creating inclusive environments, Vanessa specializes in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers, ensuring they are equipped and motivated to make a meaningful impact.

Vanessa’s exceptional organizational skills and commitment to service make her a reliable and resourceful leader in community outreach, and we are so grateful that she is sharing her skills with us here at LEAD Girls. S

Meet Audrey, a member of our new class LEAD Girls Ambassadors are working together to inspire girls in our flagship program 💫

LEAD Girls Ambassadors is a unique opportunity for girls who have graduated our middle school program to continue their leadership within the LEAD ecosystem.

As Ambassadors, the girls continue to support younger girls in the program and work on community projects. They also support our organization at key events and learn about nonprofit management and leadership.

We’re so excited to see you LEAD as an ambassador this year, Audrey!

THANK YOU to our community members and LEAD Girls Champions for helping us raise $40,077 on LEAD Girls Giving Day last week!

This Giving Day, we shared what 10 years of LEAD Girls looks like in our community.

It looks like 3,500+ girls served.
It looks like finding the courage to speak up in small and large groups.
It looks like a girl looking in the mirror and celebrating her body just as it is.
It looks like a community of trusted mentors and friends who listen and believe in you.
It looks like an increased number of girls reporting happiness and sense of belonging.
It looks like a big idea that becomes a well-crafted business pitch and that grows into a real-life company.

The past 10 years of LEAD Girls has been inspiring and life-changing for so many girls in our community, but our work is far from over! Whether you joined us on Giving Day or feel inspired to become a champion for the first time today, we need you on this journey with us for the next 10 years.

This year, we'll make our transition to our permanent home, reach even more girls in schools and in community, and grow our impact through game-changing programs that help prepare the next generation of girls to LEAD.
