The 2026 Corvette ZR1 is officially the fastest production car ever to complete Car and Driver’s Lightning Lap, setting a blistering 2:34.2 around Virginia International Raceway.

Here are a few numbers that make this even crazier:

🔥 1,064 horsepower
🔥 Twin-turbo 5.5L flat-plane-crank V8
🔥 Rear-wheel drive only—no hybrid assistance
🔥 179 mph on VIR’s front straight
🔥 Faster than the McLaren Senna’s record

What’s even more impressive is that Chevrolet didn’t need an electric motor or all-wheel drive to do it. The ZR1 proved that a gasoline-powered American sports car can still take the fight to some of the world’s most expensive exotics—and win.

Whether you’re a Corvette fan or not, it’s hard not to respect what Chevy’s engineers accomplished with this car.
