Why is it called "The Really REALLY Free Market?"
A free market is an economic system in which the prices of goods and services are determined by supply and demand. Such markets, theoretically, operate without the intervention of government or any other external authority...In an idealized free market economy, prices for goods and services are set solely by the bids and offers of the participants.
Obviously, the free market ideal differs from the version we experience in our economy.
The Really REALLY Free Market operates without any rules or regulations. And it operates without money. So the products are distributed freely without interference and similarly acquired freely. They are also free of charge. That's why we have to put two "Reallys" in front of "Free Market."
Does that make sense?
We didn't start The Really REALLY Free Market. It began in 2003 in Miami and Raleigh. It evolved as a form of protest against the G8 Summit and became aligned with Adbusters' Buy Nothing Day (aka Black Friday). It has spread to towns and cities all over the world. And we feel really privileged to carry on the tradition right here in Winston-Salem at Mothership Studios, Winston-Salem .
You can have a Really REALLY Free Market yourself in a location of your choice. It's easy!
Step 1: choose a location.
Step 2: choose a date.
Step 3: spread the word
Step 4: figure out what to do with the leftover stuff
Step 5: go through your closets and pack up stuff you don't need or want anymore.
Step 6: take your stuff to the location on the specified date. Lay it out.
Step 7: watch the fun unfold as other people start bringing their stuff.
Step 8: pack up the leftover stuff to haul it away. Make sure to clean up all trash and debris.
Step 9: Repeat as often as you like.
