Leadership Winston-Salem Welcomes Three New Members to Its Board of Directors

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. August 10, 2026 — Leadership Winston-Salem (LWS) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors: Marty Pittman, Sheila McClelland, and Kevan Turman. Each brings extensive professional experience, a strong commitment to the Winston-Salem community, and a personal connection to Leadership Winston-Salem through participation in its leadership programs.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marty, Sheila, and Kevan to the Leadership Winston-Salem Board,” said Katherine Perry, Executive Director of Leadership Winston-Salem. “Each of them brings a unique perspective, deep community knowledge, and a demonstrated commitment to making Winston-Salem a stronger place to live, work and serve. Their Leadership Winston-Salem experiences have given them an even deeper understanding of our mission and the importance of developing and connecting leaders across our community.”

Marty Pittman, Donor Engagement Officer for the Winston-Salem Foundation, is a graduate of the Leadership Winston-Salem Flagship Class of 2023. Through his work with the Winston-Salem Foundation, Pittman is engaged in strengthening philanthropy and connecting donors with opportunities to make a meaningful impact in the community.

Sheila McClelland, Chief Financial Officer for Family Services, is a graduate of the Leadership Winston-Salem Flagship Class of 2025. McClelland brings significant financial and organizational leadership experience, along with her commitment to the mission of Family Services and the broader Winston-Salem community.

Kevan Turman, Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and Executive Director of the Winston-Salem State University Foundation, is a graduate of the Leadership Winston-Salem INSIGHT Class of 2026. In his role at Winston-Salem State University, Turman leads efforts to advance the university through philanthropy, engagement and strategic partnerships.

“Leadership Winston-Salem is at its best when people from different sectors, backgrounds and experiences come together around a shared commitment to our community,” Perry said. “Marty, Sheila and Kevan exemplify that spirit, and we look forward to the leadership and energy they will bring to our Board.”

The addition of Pittman, McClelland and Turman further strengthens Leadership Winston-Salem’s commitment to its mission of educating, connecting and energizing leaders to serve and improve the community.

What began as "Project 100" has grown into an extraordinary community effort, serving 955 students and their families with backpacks, school supplies, new shoes, clothing, health screenings, vaccinations, and so much more.

Porsche's unwavering commitment to serving others is a powerful example of leadership in action. Through her work with Novant Health and her passion for giving back through BOND, she continues to create opportunities that help children begin the school year with confidence, hope, and the resources they need to succeed.

Leadership Winston-Salem is partnering with the North Carolina Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and the City of Winston-Salem to help distribute water at designated water distribution sites for neighbors impacted by the water main break.

UPDATE: As of 3:00 pm, all of the water secured by the FCSO has been distributed to citizens. Please visit another distribution center and stay safe! Thank you to everyone who donated and those who came to get water!

In consideration of the recent incident in our community, The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office will be adding an additional site for residents in need of drinking water.

To receive it please come to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office located at 301 N. Church St.
Winston-Salem, NC beginning at 10 a.m. FCSO team members will be present to assist in
loading one case of water per vehicle.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office believes that it is our responsibility to serve and protect.
When there is a need in the community, we feel that we must address it, because all that we have
and all that we are is the result of the kindness that this community has provided and shown us,
so if we have it, you have it.

UPDATE: Kernersville has 2 pallets of water left and will remain open until all is given away or until 5 p.m. The other locations are out of water for today and are now closed.

ORIGINAL POST: Forsyth County and the City of Winston-Salem are partnering to provide bottled water to residents affected by the recent water service disruptions.

While water service continues to improve across the community, bottled water distribution sites will be available to help meet the immediate needs of residents. Officials have advised residents in the affected areas to boil their water or use bottled water until further notice.

Beginning Thursday, July 30, at 10 a.m., bottled water will be distributed at the following locations while supplies last:

Griffith Elementary School
1385 W Clemmonsville Rd
Winston-Salem, NC 27127

Kennedy High School
890 E 11th St
Winston-Salem, NC 27101

Kernersville Elementary School
512 W Mountain St
Kernersville, NC 27284

Walkertown High School
5240 Sullivantown Rd
Walkertown, NC 27051

Forsyth County Sheriff's Office
301 N Church St
Winston-Salem, NC 27101

Each distribution site will operate as a drive-thru event. To help ensure as many households as possible can receive assistance, distribution will be limited to one case of bottled water per vehicle.

Residents are asked to remain patient, follow the directions of volunteers and public safety personnel, and exercise caution while entering and exiting the distribution sites.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our community partners, including the American Red Cross, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, and Crisis Control Ministry, for their collaboration and support in helping serve our residents during this response.
