As we prepare to welcome guests to the 19th Annual Gourmet Lunchbox Lunch, we want to celebrate the generous sponsors who made this special event possible.

After a two-week hiatus, Arturo is officially back with another edition of Arturo’s Weather Report! And yes, he’s still got the thumbs-up system to help us make sense of the forecast. 👍

We’re celebrating a wonderful gift of support from Allegacy Financial! 🧡

ABC of NC has been selected to receive a $1,000 2026 Allegacy Foundation Grant to support our Instructional Materials to Advance Academic Achievement initiative.

This grant will help us provide the materials and resources our students need to learn, grow, and reach their fullest potential. We’re incredibly grateful to Allegacy for recognizing the importance of education and investing in the work happening here at ABC of NC.

With 55 organizations applying for funding this year, we’re especially honored to have been selected. Thank you, Allegacy, for supporting our students, our educators, and our mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and families we serve. 💙

A beautiful day at the Carolina Classic Fair! 🎡

Our students had the best time getting out and enjoying all the fair had to offer. From showing off their incredible artwork to enjoying delicious fair food and taking a spin on the Ferris wheel, it was a day full of fun and making memories together.

Community outings are more than just fun—they’re opportunities to practice important skills in real-world settings. Students can practice communication, decision-making, navigating new environments, social interaction, and independence while enjoying experiences alongside their peers.

We’re already looking forward to the next adventure! 💙

Help us celebrate our October Employee Spotlight, Laurie Steadman! 🎃

As a Teacher/Behavior Technician III, Laurie makes a meaningful difference in our students' lives every day. After earning her Extended Content Standards licensure, she stepped into our Resource Teacher role last year and has excelled from day one!

With her background in public schools and childcare, Laurie brings patience, flexibility, and a genuine understanding of how to meet each student where they are. Her supervisor, Scott Leonard, shares that Laurie creates a warm, welcoming classroom where students with a wide range of academic and support needs receive individualized instruction and the encouragement they need to grow.

Laurie, thank you for the care, dedication, and heart you bring to ABC of NC. We are so grateful to have you on our team and for the lasting impact you make in our students’ lives! 💙

This week, we’re highlighting three organizations that strengthen our North Carolina community through advocacy, education, and support.

💙 Lionheart Academy of the Triad provides a supportive, strengths-based educational environment for students with autism, helping them build confidence, develop life skills, and work toward greater independence.

💙 Disability Rights North Carolina works to protect the rights of people with disabilities, promote self-advocacy, and help individuals access the services and opportunities they deserve.

💙 NC Statewide Independent Living Council connects individuals with disabilities to Centers for Independent Living that offer peer support, advocacy, skills training, and resources to support independent living.

We’re grateful for the organizations across our state working every day to create more inclusive, supportive communities where individuals and families can thrive.

October is AAC Awareness Month! 💙

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes tools and strategies that support people who communicate in ways other than, or in addition to, spoken words. From communication devices to picture boards and gestures, AAC helps people express themselves, share their thoughts, make choices, and connect with those around them.

AAC doesn’t replace a person’s voice; it helps make communication more accessible. At ABC of NC, we celebrate the many ways people communicate and the importance of creating opportunities for everyone to be heard, understood, and included. 💙🧡💚
