IFB Solutions, formerly Winston-Salem Industries for the Blind, provides opportunities for persons who are blind or visually impaired in need of training, employment and services. We believe that all persons who are blind or visually impaired have the right to succeed in every area of life.

Back to the ‘80s.

On July 11, 1982, following an extremely successful fundraising campaign supported by the Glenn Orr family, IFB Solutions moved to its current location, 7730 North Point Boulevard, in one of the most modern facilities in the country, employing people who are blind. IFB’s current manufacturing facility is a monument to the spirit and dedication of the people of Winston-Salem and surrounding areas.

Meet the IFB family: Michael McBee.

Michael has been with IFB for more than 20 years and, in his current role, works as a production assistant in the markers department at our Winston-Salem facility. Born with nystagmus, he credits IFB with helping him find purpose and stability in his career. In 2012, Michael was named IFB’s Overall Employee of the Year.

A blast from the past...

During the 1970s, IFB Solutions experienced rapid growth in sales and employment. IFB's leadership and the Goodwill Industries board of directors determined that the organization had grown to the point that it should have its own board. This change gave IFB more autonomy and helped to further focus its mission of creating opportunities for people who are blind.

Today marks 36 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This life-altering civil rights legislation ensures that people with disabilities have equal opportunity in matters of employment, education, transportation and voting. Link in comments.

Get to know Massif, the presenting sponsor of the IFB Solutions 90th anniversary.

The partnership between IFB and Massif began in 2008, when Massif, the original designer of the military’s Advanced Army Combat Shirt (ACS), entrusted IFB with manufacturing this highly specialized garment for our troops. For the past 18 years, IFB and Massif have worked closely together to enhance the performance of several garments to meet the rigorous demands of military use. Massif is also a generous supporter of IFB’s mission to create opportunities for people who are blind.

In celebration of its 90th anniversary, IFB Solutions will share new, untold stories about its team members. This week, meet Skyler Mejia.

Skyler has been a member of the IFB family for nine years and, in his current role, works on the stapler assembly line at the Winston-Salem facility. Skyler embodies the spirit of collaboration and dedication and was named IFB’s Overall Employee of the Year in 2025. Outside of work, Skyler enjoys spending quality time with his family.

It’s , and this week, we’re travelling back to the 1950s.

In 1958, the Winston-Salem Lions Club began searching for a new way to support Winston-Salem Industries for the Blind, now IFB Solutions. They met with the North Carolina Commission for the Blind and leaders of Winston-Salem Goodwill Industries, deciding that the organization should be under the leadership of Goodwill Industries’ board. After relocating operations to a former foil plant in Winston-Salem, manufacturing expanded to include packaging items such as combs and handkerchiefs, refinishing furniture and tuning pianos.
