Healthcare Industry Professionals Serving Seniors (HIPSS) HIPSS is a group of senior healthcare professionals that meets the second Wednesday of each month at Hospice & Palliative CareCenter from 11:30 am-1pm.

For many years, Social Workers and Admission Directors from local Long Term Care facilities, Assisted Living communities and Hospitals gathered monthly to network and discuss services for the Seniors in their care. This meeting was called the Triad Social Workers Luncheon. In time, the group grew to include Home Health Care providers, Hospice, and Durable Medical Equipment vendors. The title, “So

cial Workers Luncheon” no longer fit the group. Realizing the need for a change, Healthcare Industry Professionals Serving Seniors (HIPSS) was formed. The first meeting took place in January of 2007. In three months, membership climbed to 113, representing 67 agencies. Officers were elected, a Board of Directors was established, and the following committees were formed: Membership and Social Committee, Education Commitee, and Community Relations Committee. HIPSS was built on a collaborative, not a competitive model. As such, HIPSS looks to establish formal collaborative relationships with other groups serving Seniors. Each member contributes their talent and expertise to further educate the entire group to achieve the mission of HIPSS. That mission is: To improve the qualify of life for the seniors we have the privilege of serving, by improving relationships and communication between providers; expanding their knowledge base and resources to effectively serve our seniors with the utmost dignity and respect.

HIPSS Board members were honored today to be a part of the dedication of a dogwood tree and memorial plaque in memory of our dear friend Shona Jones. She was our most recent winner of the Julie Morris award. Her impact on our HIPSS members and the wonderful things she did in the community as a person and as a dedicated worker in the healthcare industry most recently at Holland Homes will not be forgotten. She was taken too soon and will be greatly missed.

What a great meeting! In July HIPSS enjoyed our speaker Julie Freischlag, MD, CEO of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist . She spoke to a full house and educated us on current news with our local hospital system and current trends in healthcare. It was an awesome day with a brilliant speaker! We enjoyed meeting at the new Intergenerational Center.
