Forgotten Felines of Forsyth is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, committed to humanely reducing the feral and stray cat population in Forsyth and surrounding counties of North Carolina through a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. FFF Does:

Sterilize feral and stray cats
Provide rabies and distemper vaccinations at the time of surgery
Provide flea and ear mite treatment at the time of surgery
Permanently notch the left ear of sterilized cats
Return the cat to the original location

FFF Does Not:

Accept cats for adoption from the public
Relocate cats
Participate in cat trapping for euthanasia
Participate in cat trapping for release to animal control
Establish feral cat colonies
Trap kittens under 3 months old, unless prior arrangements have been made to keep them inside to await adoption or until old enough for sterilization and a rabies vaccine
Spay/neuter personal pets (we can direct you to other resources offering low cost s/n options)

This cartoon flea might be cute, but the real fleas we see on the ferals who come through our clinic certainly aren’t! Every cat who visits our clinic receives a topical flea treatment. If you have leftover flea medicine for cats or dogs, we can take those (even the ones that say not for cats)! Our vets will look at the ingredients and dosages and either determine the appropriate dosage for feral cats or determine they really are dog only and we pass those along to Forsyth county dog owners in the areas where we do TNR to help our doggie friends too. We recently ran out of our surplus flea meds, so please reach out on messenger if you have some to donate and we’ll coordinate getting them from you. As always, thank you so much for the community support, we couldn’t do this without you!

Today we’d like to share the story of tabby town with you. A couple years ago, one of our volunteers was called out to help with a colony that picked up the nickname “Tabby Town” due to its abundance of tabby cats. When help first arrived, many of the cats were sick, had skin infections, lice, and due to inbreeding just relatively in rough shape. Tabby town turned out to span across three different feeding spots/ caretakers in a neighborhood with over 75 cats. We have been able to spay and neuter nearly all of the feral cats present and have partnered with local rescues to adopt out around 20 kittens and friendly adults. Now when you visit tabby town you don’t see sick and sad cats- you see cats like in the photos below- vaccinated, relatively healthy, well-fed cats who have built trust with their caretakers. The cost for FFF to TNR 75 cats is about $3,750. For most people caring for feral cats, a cost like that is unattainable and the money they do have is spent trying to feed a growing population. TNR doesn’t just help the cats, it helps the people who care for those cats but can’t afford to take on the financial burden of taking the cats to a full-cost vet. We rely heavily on our community and supporters to help fund projects like tabby town, and it’s thanks to you that these cats get to live out their lives happy and healthy.

Will you consider making a donation to help us with the next tabby town? Even small donations of $5 add up and every dollar counts to help us help these cats and the community they are a part of. We are trying to raise $1,000 to sponsor our next TNR clinic in September. Please share this post! 🐾

What a busy weekend! 38 cats were spayed and neutered today with a limited staff. Thank you to all our volunteers for their time and efforts. In addition to our normal patients, volunteers helped both an injured box turtle and goose while out and about for their TNR activities. We had quite a few medical cases that were looked at today- two cats missing legs, a severe neck injury, a cat missing an eye, several cats with lice and one with hundreds of small ticks on him. This lifesaving work is only possible through the support of our community. Will you help us raise funds to sponsor a second clinic this month? We’re hoping to raise $1,000 to help fund our next clinic at the end of August. Every dollar adds up to provide life saving care for these cats in our community. ❤️

One of our trappers had a fun opportunity today to attend Carolina Kitty Con in Raleigh. One of the panels was with some of the most widely known men involved in TNR across the country - Sterling “TrapKing”, Angelo “Mad Catter” and Bob “Cowboy Cat Wrangler”. They shared trapping stories, tips, and resources. The Mad Catter, Angelo Ruffo, ended with the encouragement to never stop doing what you can to help. TNR requires so many different skill sets to accomplish our goals- whether it’s trapping, fundraising, volunteering at the spay/ neuter clinic, sharing information and education in the community- it’s all important and helps us reduce suffering if feral and community cats. Thanks to these guys who are helping to bring more awareness of the importance of TNR and thanks to everyone out there supporting TNR efforts in whatever ways you can!

After getting snowed out in January, we were finally able to have our first clinic of the year this weekend! We had a good mix of males and females who came in to be spayed and neutered before breeding season begins. In this photo you see some of the boys being monitored after their surgery. The wet spots you see are where a topical flea medication is applied to help protect these guys as the weather starts to warm up.

For years we’ve been able to use Frontline spray, but the manufacturer is no longer producing this spray, so we’re going to be looking for a new topical flea treatment to use. If any of our feral cat caretaker friends have suggestions on cost effective safe options, we’d love to hear in the comments!
