So happy to hear this news that the Moravian Church in Great Britain has committed to working to end gender based violence! If your province has started any new advocacy or program initiatives, please let us know so we can share the good news. How can we use hearts and hands and voices to end violence?

Continuing the theme of journeys, earlier this year many women travelled from across the worldwide Moravian church to meet in Arusha, Tanzania for a Unity Women's Desk of the Moravian Church Consultation. The topic was challenging gender-based violence (GBV). At the close we were encouraged to return home changed and to take ACTION.

Here in the Moravian Church - British Province we have since had a Synod. A proposal put by Janet Cooper and seconded by Jane Carter was passed. Thus as a Province we are now committed to challenging all forms of gender-based violence and to supporting .

Raising awareness of GBV is where we start so please wear your badge with pride; if you need one, please drop me a message below. Over the coming months we can look at ways of working together in this vital issue facing us.

Today I am reading for my work on 'Journeys of Moravian Women'. So many questions about the equality of women in our church - then and now. Here is just one amazing example. Rebecca Protten was enslaved. Upon gaining freedom she married a missionary in St Thomas. They were imprisoned but Zinzendorf helped to secure their release. She travelled to Germany where she was ordained as a deacon. Married Christian Protten (both in picture with thier child) and went to the Ivory Coast where she died. What a story of bravery, resilience, leadership and achievement.
Without our Archives we wouldn't know these amazing stories.

We're so proud of our Unity Board President, Sister Roberta!

Moravian University announced that Roberta Hoey, president of the Unity Board of the Worldwide Moravian Unity, will serve as the featured speaker for the university’s 2026 Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9, in Bethlehem. During the exercises, the university will confer upon Hoey the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in recognition of her trailblazing leadership and tireless advocacy for social justice.
