👨🏽‍⚕️💙 June is National Men’s Health Month 💙👨🏻‍⚕️

Did you know?

📊 Men are less likely to seek preventive healthcare and routine screenings than women. In fact, women are nearly twice as likely to seek preventive care.

📊 Only about 60% of men receive an annual routine checkup, while 40% wait until a serious health issue arises before seeing a healthcare provider.

📊 Heart disease remains the leading cause of death among men, followed by cancer and unintentional injuries.

📊 More than 50% of men have high blood pressure, and nearly 40% of adult men are living with obesity.

National Men’s Health Month is a reminder that early detection, regular checkups, healthy eating, physical activity, and mental health support can save lives.

At Community Care Clinic, we encourage men of all ages to take charge of their health by:
✅ Scheduling annual wellness visits
✅ Monitoring blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar
✅ Staying physically active
✅ Prioritizing mental health
✅ Talking openly about health concerns

Your health matters—not just for you, but for your family, friends, and community.

💙 This month, make yourself a priority. Schedule a checkup. Ask questions. Take the first step toward a healthier future.

The CCC (and the world) has lost a hero. Dr. Philip Howard McKinley, Jr. passed away on May 26, 2026. From his obituary:
"Philip began mission work in 1990 at a clinic in Mexico and continued serving in Kenya, Honduras, Peru, Nevis, Haiti, and in the United States, returning to several locations for many years. His dedication to patients of all backgrounds, lead him to studying Spanish and reading Spanish novels. After twenty years of seeing up to 80 patients a day, he donated his practice to Duke in 1999- a gift that was unheard of at the time. This allowed him to devote more time to mission work while continuing to serve patients through Duke Eye Center in Winston-Salem.

In 2005, while working part-time, Philip earned his Master of Public Health from UNC Chapel Hill. As part of his studies, he completed a preceptorship at Emory University focused on HIV/AIDS, then traveled to Ahuas, Honduras to a remote Moravian clinic where his research helped inspire a mother-to-child HIV transmission prevention program.

When the Community Care Center opened in Winston-Salem, Philip helped establish its Eye Care Program and volunteered there for more than twenty years. He considered caring for others a privilege and calling."

It's an honor to be included among the many places and ways Dr. Mckinley served over his lifetime.

When "Manuel” first came to Community Care Clinic, his diabetes was dangerously uncontrolled with an A1C over 15.5. He was weak, frail, and struggling just to stand up from a chair.

Today, after medication, diabetes education, physical therapy, and compassionate support from our care team, Manuel’s A1C is down to 7.8 — and he’s getting stronger every day.

At a recent follow-up appointment, he and his wife both cried tears of relief and gratitude when they heard the news.

This is what compassionate healthcare can do.

Because of supporters like you, patients in our community like Manuel are finding hope, healing, and a path toward healthier futures. ❤️
