🌟Celebrating 26 Years of Honoring Extraordinary Cancer Advocates 🌟
For more than two decades, Cancer Services has recognized individuals who truly embody our mission—people who do anything, anytime, and in any way they can to make a positive difference in the lives of those living with cancer.
Over the coming weeks, we will be highlighting our three 2026 Cancer Services Patient Advocate Award recipients. We are honored to recognize Andrea Mitchell, BCC, Outpatient Chaplain with the Novant Health Cancer Institute, for her unwavering compassion and dedication to cancer survivors and their families.
Beyond her professional role, Andrea generously volunteers her time with Cancer Services, co-facilitates our Lung Cancer Support Group, and helps connect patients with vital resources. Her calming presence, caring heart, and commitment to walking alongside patients through every step of their journey make her an exceptional advocate.
One colleague shared a story that perfectly captures Andrea's impact: "From diagnosis to treatment to recovery (in whatever form it takes), Andrea is the pinnacle of advocacy for those who walk the cancer journey."
When a young cancer patient's wish was to receive a special Star Wars lightsaber, Andrea rallied support from her oncology team and the local 501st Legion to create a magical bedside surprise. The costumed characters delivered the coveted lightsaber in person, bringing tremendous joy to the patient and creating a cherished memory for her family.
💙 Thank you, Andrea, for your extraordinary kindness, advocacy, and commitment to making every patient feel seen, supported, and cared for. We are grateful to partner with such amazing, compassionate, and dedicated patient advocates.
