Student night at Piedmont Opera is November 11th! 🎭

Junior and Senior Forsyth County Scholars who attend the Opera on 11/11 will be entered into a drawing to win our $250 Cultural Awareness Scholarship! Our Financial Aid Team will be there to document your attendance and confirm eligibility for the drawing.

The registration code for free student admission will be shared in the weekly Crosby Scholars Junior and Senior emails as well as in the Financial Aid Newsletter. Parents are welcome to attend at a discounted rate of $15. Space is limited, so reserve your tickets now!

Scholars in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades can earn College Fair/College Visit credit for attending any 1 of these UNC System Virtual Open House events on Zoom! After you attend, complete your College Fair/Visit Form in CrosbyConnect to earn credit.

A note from our Crosby Scholars Advising Team....We're an objective voice in a confusing process!

If you're the parent of a Class of 2028 Scholar, you might be thinking..."Should we go visit colleges now or wait? Does it even matter?"

Yes, go visit. Go now. Going on official campus visits is key to helping students determine a good “fit” college for them. If you have not started visiting schools, schedule a visit for this Fall. Both you and your scholar will learn more about the school, have the chance to discuss topics (the vibe is real!) and be “demonstrating interest” which some schools track.

Having first-hand knowledge of a college will help your Junior create their college list. Virtual tours are a great option, too, but visiting schools is a NOW task. Also, colleges change over time so even if it’s a place you were familiar with circa 2004, it might be an eye-opening experience for you, too! Get a fresh perspective & have fun with your scholar. They are growing up fast.

Last Saturday, Forsyth County Scholars and their parents had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on culinary experience crafted around the sweet potato. This experience was cultivated by Chef Shelly Skeen, Chef Stephanie Tyson, and Chef Tahesia McKnight.

Participants explored healthy and affordable ways to prepare sweet potatoes and further developed their teamwork and communication skills.

Thank you to all our community partners who helped bring this event to life: Chef Shelly Skeen, Chef Stephanie Tyson, Sweet Potatoes, Inc., Chef Tahesia McKnight, Farmer Dean, YMCA of Northwest NC, Goodwill of Northwest NC, Taste of the Triad, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, and Walmart.

Yesterday, our Scholars attended a volunteer orientation at Forsyth Humane Society. They made enrichment toys for shelter cats, learned about different dog breeds, and got some much-needed playtime with adorable puppies! 🥰✨

Attn: Forsyth County Class of 2028...Ready to get Junior Year started? Join us for Junior Academy THIS WEEK! Register in CrosbyConnect to reserve your *virtual* seat.

Additional Academy dates will be available in September and October. You can expect both virtual and in-person options. Juniors are required to complete two (2) Crosby Scholars Academies: Junior Academy (fall requirement) and Think Like a Senior (spring requirement). Junior Academy takes place in the fall semester and is due November 3, 2026.

This event raises funds for Crosby Scholars programming in Forsyth County and need-based Last Dollar Grants.
