In a desperate response to our steam challenge, the diesel guys have tried a consist with engines that no one else liked in hopes that it would work for them. The steam guys would like to point out that the terriers (aka the growling critters) didn’t make it up the big hill without assistance.

Now that they are on N&W territory, which is still predominantly steam, we’ll see how they fair—and how long!!

The steam crews have upped the anti with the motive power wars tonight. The Challenger carries a rusted derelict hulk of what used to be a diesel off to the scrap yard. We’ll keep you updated with the anticipated diesel crew response to this latest volley.

N&W 611 and T&P 610 both pulled excursions for the Southern/NS program, but never got a chance to team up. The 610 was back in Texas by the time 611 came around. They both pulled excursions for our club at various times, and the 611 even made it to Winston. Here, their HO scale counterparts team up on an excursion passing Winston-Salem Union Station. The under construction real-life Reynolds building mockup is testing for a real model.

We’re down at the port near Charleston tonight with a Southern Ks-3 2-8-0 switching the refinery. Someone probably got an unpaid vacation on account of the boxcar’s location!!
