Forsyth Audubon is surveying people across the community to help shape Forsyth Audubon's strategy to best serve our region.

We value your opinions whether you're a long-time birder, an Audubon member or partner, or just starting to learn about birds and habitat protection!

We love to see bird-friendly legislation! Protecting our native plants is the first step to creating a healthy habitat for all living things.

It's official! Governor Josh Stein proclaimed Oct. 20–26, 2025, as “Native Plants Week” in North Carolina, recognizing—among their many benefits—their importance to our state's natural heritage, history, and identity. We're grateful to see support for bird-friendly initiatives at the highest levels in our state. Learn more: https://nc.audubon.org/news/celebrate-native-plants-week-getting-your-hands-dirty

On Sunday, October 19, 21 volunteers divided into 4 teams to survey early successional plant communities across the Muddy Creek floodplain at Long Creek Park. Floodplain meadows and wetlands play a vital role in managing stormwater, preventing soil erosion, and providing high-quality habitats for birds, pollinators, and diverse wildlife. Forsyth Audubon will use these observations to guide our habitat restoration efforts, and some initial observations are already available on iNaturalist as part of our Long Creek Park Biodiversity Project. We’d love your help confirming IDs!

Since many people expressed an interest in repeating the survey in the spring, keep your eyes peeled for another invitation, especially if you couldn’t make it this time.

Thank you to everyone who showed up to make a real difference for birds in our community.

According to Bird Cast, 1,541,900 migrating birds flew over Forsyth County last night!

Simply turning off any non-essential outdoor (especially upward facing, white) nighttime lighting from 11pm-6am during migration can dramatically increase the survival rate of these vulnerable species.
