You are part of the Family Services story. We are proud to present the 2024 - 2025 Impact Report, celebrating our 120th year of service to Forsyth County. It opens a conversation to think bigger, a reminder that we must always be improving, and ask ourselves, "What can we do better for those we serve?"

Inside are stories of hope and healing, of opportunity that would not happen without your support. Take a moment and see what we've achieved together in this past year, and then let us know in the comments what your next chapter looks like with Family Services - volunteering, attending an event, sharing our story with a friend, or something else. Thank you for making our work possible every day.

She chose to leave and never look back. Christin's story led her on a path to independence, confidence, and hope. Watch and listen as she takes healing steps toward realizing that she deserved a sense of peace and safety, and the important role shelter played in her journey.

You can help survivors like her reach their fullest potential when you make a gift now before June 30 - every gift up to $750,000 is matched! There's still time to help make healing possible.

The current condition of our dormitory-style domestic violence shelter is in an urgent situation of diminished functionality, efficiency, and safety.

Unfortunately, Family Services can no longer meet the rising demand and changing need of domestic abuse victims in our current shelter, which functions in a 94-year-old building overwhelmed by maintenance issues. Flooding from water and sewage pipes has caused decay in walls and floors, resulting in over $500,000 in renovations and repairs alone.

That's why new construction and your support are essential. All gifts through June 30 are generously matched up to $750,000 by a generous local family: http://giveonestepcloser.org/about-the-campaign

"What I love most about my work is witnessing resilience every day. Even amid trauma, survivors show incredible strength, and it is an honor to support them on their journey," shares Advocacy Services Program Manager Melissa Nagaishi.

At the Bridges to Hope Family Justice Center of Forsyth County, our advocates help domestic violence survivors file for protection orders and create safety plans, all at no cost. Strong community partnerships like these serve as a lifeline, bringing hope and healing to survivors in need.

Help make stories of resilience possible and learn how you can make a difference in our new future for Forsyth County at http://giveonestepcloser.org/ways-to-give.

One of the top reasons a victim will not leave an abusive situation is that there is a pet in the home. For those seeking refuge from an abuser who threatens animal cruelty to control or manipulate, emergency housing that is pet-friendly is a lifeline.

Thanks to two generous donors, a 72-hour pet-holding space will be available in our new domestic violence shelter so survivors can care for their pets until arrangements can be made.

You too can help give survivors and their pets the reassurance they need to take their first steps toward freedom by making a gift in honor of your pet or someone you love at http://giveonestepcloser.org/give-now

When survivors stay with us at the emergency domestic violence shelter, their story forever becomes a part of the fabric of Family Services.

It resonates in the work we do every day. Reminders of guests can often be found in the little things, like encouraging words of hope or self-reflection used to help build confidence. As we look to the future of a new, trauma-informed shelter, we were inspired to find one such message left in a room, taped to the mirror. It tells the story of a brighter future.

Leaving an abusive partner can be risky and frightening. Family Services offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary support to individuals experiencing domestic violence in the home or their interpersonal relationships.

In support of Mental Health Awareness Month, we shine a light on the importance of counseling, crisis intervention, and support groups we offer to survivors during their journey to healing and a fresh start. Our trained, compassionate domestic violence shelter staff support guests and provide peace of mind, empathy, and specialized assessments to prioritize safety.

Every survivor has a story.

On May 15, that story belonged to World Boxing Organization Featherweight Champion Heather "The Heat" Hardy pictured here with Family Services President & CEO Khari Garvin. Hardy was the keynote speaker at the Family Services Foundation’s Women Luncheon – an inspirational event that launched an endowment fund for the emergency domestic violence shelter, which will change and save lives for years to come.

Following the event, Hardy hosted a community empowerment and strength boxing clinic at Salem College. The clinic aimed to raise awareness and unite attendees in a spirit of hope for the cause. Read more and hear about her journey in these features from our friends and partners at WXII 12 NEWS:
