Introducing ISA’s Executive, Clara Hirata is a rising 3rd year Director in the School of Film. She’s from São Paulo, Brazil.

“Oi gente! My name is Clara Hirata and I’m a rising 3rd year student from São Paulo, Brazil. I’m majoring in Filmmaking with a concentration in Directing (don’t be mislead by the stereotypes, I swear I’m nice). Films have always been a passion, but studying abroad became a goal when I decided to actually pursue a career in filmmaking. It was extremely tough to fly out of my comfort zone and land in a completely different place with a completely different culture. But the community of people in UNCSA, specially my fellow international students, made me feel at home as soon as I got here. Creating this community is super important to me, not only to make international students feel welcomed, but also to make our voices heard in a space that needs more diversity. We are here to support each other and I can’t wait to meet all of you!”

“Hello! My name is Lizzy Compton, I am a fourth year film student specializing in cinematography. I am from Raleigh North Carolina, about 2 hours from UNCSA. Over the course of my time at school I have become close friends with several international students. Through them I have witnessed the struggles that come alongside studying in a foreign country away from your home and family. I am passionate about learning from and about other culture and am so excited to help new international students navigate mine!”
