Last week, our 25 year-old son Matt came to visit his parents and the girls of Sycamore House! As you can see, he was a very popular visitor -- not only is he very chill and enthusiastic, but also speaks Spanish well enough to gain five new best friends! We were sad to see him go!

Hola from Camu! We are in the midst of a very dry season but thankfully both people and plants here are very resilient. As you can see from the pic below, the path to the river (a daily stroll with the pups) is thirsty ! At the market, papayas are in season, and mangoes (sadly) are out. Avocados and limes are always IN!

We are getting close to finishing the shed! Matt and Cal spent one of their days here this week under the watchful eye of "El Maestro." the concrete expert and new friend of Sycamore House. We moved 450 cement blocks from the road to the backyard, mixed cement by hand, and wheelbarrowed it through the yard to the site. Hopefully, my next post will show its completion!

On Friday, we had a long but great day of hard work on our veranda, where we expect to spend lots of time with the girls and enjoy the outside space for homework and dinner! Thanks to Swaso, the electrician, we now have lights there!

The reason for posting the pic of the "glorieta" (gazebo in English) last week was that it was in desperate need of a "hat" on the top -- especially, now during the rainy season! Jose, a very nice man with a Yankees hat (only thing I disagreed with!) used broad leaves from a tree found in the mountains and did the job! He very much appreciated several bunches of plantains as he left!

We are patiently (as much as is possible!) waiting for girls to fill these clothes in their new home! Thank you to all who donated, washed, cleaned and organized many boxes of future blessings to our girls!

Hola from Camu in the Dominican Republic! Mark and I have been here for almost two months, and are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our first six girls at Sycamore House. In the meantime, we have been working hard on our Espanol, getting the house organized, and praying for God's favor and continued provision. We have also added one and a half dogs to our household -- in addition to Luis, our US dog, we have adopted Chachos (a street dog in bad shape who is doing much better now) and Patitas, a friendly little pup who stops by when she can escape her chain in another backyard. Much more to come!
