Recently, I had the privilege of completing my DMin in Biblical Counseling, focusing my dissertation on the bridges and barriers to personal relationships for those living with Autism.
Autism is a neurotype. Similar to eye color, there are people who live with blue, brown, or hazel eyes. Eye color, or neurotype, is something to be fixed, but instead appreciated and enjoyed.
Autists can find help more easily in the areas of vocation or education, but in personal relationships and in navigating the world more broadly, they can experience significant suffering. By extension, it can be felt by their loved ones.
In God's economy, He has continued to direct individuals and couples living with Autism to our practice. Many have enjoyed developing new tools and a better understanding for navigating life inside and outside of home, church, and work. Some are being diagnosed
early in life, but many adults are simply aware that they don't experience depth of relationship with friends, spouse, kids and to some degree the Lord himself.
If you or someone you know would like to explore this subject more, be evaluated, or receive counseling, please know that we would like to serve you in this way.
It is one of the many areas that we address in our counseling spaces throughout NC and WV.
