As Veterans of Foreign Wars, we are honored to help teach the next generation the respect, pride, and patriotism represented by the American flag.

Thank you to Scout Troop 433F for joining us for our Flag Retirement Ceremony and helping honor the Stars and Stripes with the dignity it deserves.

These traditions matter, and we are proud to share them with the future leaders of our community.

Read the WABI TV5 story here.

With guidance from VFW members, Scouts helped to fold flags to prepare them for retirement.

A Message From Mike Dumont, Winslow VFW Post 8835 Commander

The strength of any Veterans of Foreign Wars Post is found not only in its members' service to our nation, but also in their continued dedication to serving their community. At Winslow VFW Post 8835, we are fortunate to have a membership that exemplifies the ideals of service, sacrifice, and commitment every single day.

I would like to take a moment to recognize several individuals whose efforts have made a tremendous impact on our Post and the greater Winslow community.

A special thank you goes to our Quartermaster, David Loubier, and his wife, Joyce. Their dedication to our Post is truly remarkable. Through their countless hours spent preparing and serving meals in our lounge, they have not only provided a welcoming atmosphere for members and guests but have also generously donated proceeds back to the Post. Beyond the kitchen, David and Joyce continually volunteer their time and energy to support numerous events and activities, always stepping forward whenever help is needed.

I would also like to recognize Mike Celentano and Brenda White for their leadership in hosting Cruise-In nights every Tuesday. These events have become a favorite gathering for community members and visitors alike, bringing people together while supporting our Post. Mike's efforts extend far beyond these events. Through his work with the Maine State Prison and the Kennebec County Jail, he has coordinated projects that have helped clean and maintain the Central Maine Veterans Memorial Park while also beautifying our Post grounds. His commitment to honoring veterans and improving our community is truly commendable.

Rachel Anderson deserves special recognition for her continued efforts in coordinating events and helping guide our Post into the future. Her vision, organization, and dedication have played a vital role in ensuring that our Post remains active, relevant, and engaged with both our members and the community we serve.

While these individuals deserve special mention, they represent just a few of the many dedicated members who volunteer their time throughout the year. From organizing events and fundraising activities to supporting fellow veterans and community initiatives, countless members work behind the scenes to ensure the success of Winslow VFW Post 8835. Their contributions do not go unnoticed, and our Post would not be what it is today without their commitment.

War veterans continue to play a vital role within our communities. The values we learned through military service—leadership, teamwork, discipline, and selfless service—remain just as important after we hang up the uniform. By continuing to serve our neighbors, support local causes, and mentor future generations, veterans can help strengthen the communities we call home. Our Post remains committed to finding new ways to give back and grow, ensuring that our service to America continues long after our time in uniform.

I would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Auxiliary for everything they do for our Post and community. Their dedication is evident in countless ways, from organizing Quilts of Valor presentations that honor deserving veterans to hosting craft nights and numerous community events. Their efforts help create a welcoming environment while supporting veterans and their families throughout the year.

A special thank you goes to Auxiliary member Brenda Blair, whose continued efforts and dedication have helped improve our Post in countless ways. Her willingness to volunteer and support our mission serves as an example for us all.

I would also like to recognize Greg Brown, Auxiliary President, for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the organization. Greg's guidance, vision, and tireless work have helped strengthen the partnership between the Post and Auxiliary while ensuring that both continue to serve veterans and the community effectively.

Finally, I would like to extend an invitation to all eligible war veterans who are not yet members of the VFW. If you are looking for a way to continue serving your community, connect with fellow veterans, and make a positive difference, we encourage you to stop by our lounge and sign up. Together, we can continue building a stronger future for our veterans, our Post, and our community. There is always room for another veteran who wants to be part of the change.

Yours in comradeship,

Mike Dumont, Commander
