For over 30 years the crew at La Posada has given hundreds of guided tours of the hotel. In the Affeldt Mion Museum Archive we recently came across images of these tours going back to 1996, when owner Allan Affeldt was just beginning to plan for the restoration of the hotel. Recently we have been looking to expand the tours to include the Affeldt Mion Museum (which is operated in conjunction with the Winslow Arts Trust) and some of the Winslow Studio Artist properties. We have also been combing through our collections to find images before, during and after the renovation to better tell the story of La Posada’s revival. AMM Creative Director Lori Bentley Law and Special Projects Manager Dan Lutzick recently tested some of the new material with some visitors from Surprise, Arizona. The hour and a half tour included all the public spaces in La Posada and the six galleries in AMM. If you are interested in scheduling a tour of the property visit the AMM website at:
https://ammwsa.com/group-tours/
We look forward to sharing the story of revival of La Posada with you sometime soon!

Visitors often ask how to get to the Affeldt Mion Museum from La Posada Hotel. Rather than writing the directions out, we took a little walk with our video camera to show you just how close the museum is. The Affeldt Mion museum works with the Winslow Arts Trust to showcase the history of La Posada, Fred Harvey, Mary Colter, and the Santa Fe Railroad. AMM is also home to the Big Rug, an incredible Navajo textile, and the historic 502 Pleasure Dome Observation Rail Car.

Our magnificent Diyogí Tsoh (The Big Rug) has been featured in a gorgeous new book from Monacelli's Craft in America entitled Handcrafted Objects: Hand Work That Made America. The Big Rug is part of the Winslow Arts Trust collection, and displayed at Affeldt Mion Museum, located in the 1930 train depot on the La Posada Hotel grounds in Winslow, Arizona. We will soon have this book available to purchase in the gift shop at the museum and inside La Posada! Stay tuned for details.

The book is part of a nationwide Semiquincentennial initiative to showcase the importance of the handmade both throughout our history and in contemporary life. See more about the project via the link in our comments.
