✈️ FREEDOM HONOR FLIGHT ✈️

On September 19th, an auction was held at the Winona VFW in effort to raise money for the Freedom Honor Flight, total raised was 3,350. These proceeds were happily presented to Honor Flight President , Dave Larsen, by Cindy Westby and Jeanne Clegg. They would like to thank everyone involved to supported this amazing event!

Also, a personal donation of $1,520 was present by Rhonda Schell in memory of her late husband, Bill Schell.

Patriot’s Pen is the VFW’s national essay competition for middle school students, grades 6-8, asking young writers to respond to a patriotic theme chosen each year by the VFW Commander-in-Chief.

2026–2027 THEME: “What A Veteran Taught Me About America”

DEADLINE: Submit to a local sponsoring VFW Post by Midnight, October 31, 2026.

AWARDS: The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $55,000, with each first-place state winner receiving a minimum of $500 at the national level. The national first-place winner wins $5,000.
