Thank you to our friends at the AACC for this encouraging post. Healing is possible, but it will happen in community. As Dr. Perry states in his book What Happened to You?
“Our major finding is that your history of relational health - your connectedness to family, community, and culture - is more predictive of your mental health than your history of adversity…Connectedness has the power to counterbalance adversity”

We hope you will connect with us and hundreds of others looking for a healing community at our Healing Childhood Trauma Conference this November.

Registration for our 2026 Healing Childhood Trauma Conference opens in 1 month. Don’t forget to register on July 1st!

One month ago today, we hosted a conference on student mental health.

We heard from Dr. Adam Sáenz and Dr. Deb McEvoy, who shared insight and practical strategies for helping students navigate mental health challenges. We also heard from a panel of students and a youth leader who spoke honestly about how mental health has impacted their own lives, their peers at school, and the students they work with.

At Lost Sparrows, our mission is to help vulnerable children in our community. We are committed to equipping foster and adoptive parents, educators, youth workers, and churches with the understanding and tools needed to better support the vulnerable children in their lives.

To continue this mission, we have a variety of events planned throughout the year. Be sure to stay up to date.
September 10 — How Tech is Rewiring Today’s Students with Dr. Jay Shetler
October 8 — The Anxiety Opportunity, a virtual class featuring a special guest (to be announced)
November 6–7 — Lost Sparrows Healing Childhood Trauma Conference featuring Curt Thompson

‼️Join us NOW for a free virtual class featuring Dr. Chap Clark! See you soon!

Our FREE, VIRTUAL class Understanding Current Generations with Dr. Chap Clark is this Thursday at 7pm ET. Dr. Clark will share his thoughts on supporting today's students and answer questions.

Class Description
Everyone agrees the world is changing—rapidly. Amid a relentless surge of technology, rising performance pressures, and the fragmentation of identity across “multiple selves,” today’s young people are increasingly marked by loneliness and isolation.
This session explores how growing up in this environment is reshaping child and adolescent development and impacting mental health. We’ll examine why genuine human thriving has diminished—and, more importantly, what leaders, pastors, educators, and parents can do to help young people rebuild an authentic, integrated sense of self in an increasingly impersonal world.

Guest Speaker: Chap Clark, PhD
Chap Clark is a leading scholar and mentor who has spent his career examining how today’s rapidly changing culture shapes the development and mental health of young people. Drawing on deep expertise at the intersection of human development and practical theology, Dr. Clark equips leaders to respond wisely to the complex emotional and relational realities facing emerging generations.
A longtime seminary professor, author, and speaker, Chap translates research into practical insight—helping leaders understand what young people are truly experiencing and how to walk alongside them with wisdom, presence, and hope.

We are SO excited to announce Curt Thompson as the keynote speaker for the conference.

Our theme this year is Living in the Gap; "Trauma mended becomes something new. Becoming a language that can speak into the divide, into the gap. The beauty of not only how God mends us, but because we are broken and renewed, and are far more valuable than we were before.” - Makoto Fujimura
