NEW LAW BROADENS THE GROUP WHO NEED TO MEET WORK REQUIREMENTS. Under the new rules, able-bodied adults aged 18 to 64 without dependents must work 80 hours per month to retain SNAP eligibility beyond three months in a 36-month period. The previous age limit was 54. Veterans, people experiencing homelessness, and certain young adults who aged out of foster care must meet these same requirements. While adults with children under 14 are exempt from the new law, those with children ages 14 to 17 are now subject to the time limit.
