Happy 250th birthday to the United States of America!

Flag Day is celebrated annually on June 14 to commemorate the adoption of the United States flag by the Continental Congress in 1777. Congress resolved that the flag consist of 13 alternating red and white stripes and 13 white stars on a blue field, representing a new constellation. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation establishing this day as Flag Day in 1916, and it was signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1949.

Thank you for the great turnout today for our annual Memorial Day event in Memorial Park. Folks had an opportunity to step and tell of their loved ones who did not make it home. We remember these and the over 1.2 million who have made the ultimate sacrifice since Revolutionary War.

The city will be holding an award ceremony Friday at noon at Memorial Park.

Longview & Winnsboro: Awarded the Veteran-Friendly Community Designation in February 2026 by the East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) for establishing a benchmark in supporting veterans through employment, housing, healthcare, and transportation.
