Every child has the right to education. Every child should have the chance to go to school, to learn to read and write.

RISE builds primary schools in rural Angola to educate children, empower communities, and contribute to the rebuilding of the country. Since 2003, RISE has built 198 rural schools, providing the opportunity for education to over 144,000 children. The greatest achievement lies with the lives impacted, the children who are now in school. The tangible accomplishments, those measurable pieces, represe

nt the efforts of many schools, churches, individuals and groups working together, both in the US and in Angola. The intangible impact in the lives of those on both sides of the ocean is beyond measure.

We've had time with special friends, visited a site and two schools under construction in Luanda, met with long-term partners, and will begin our travel home tonight.

Sad goodbyes with dear friends from Kuito, and with the Huambo family yesterday; a beautiful drive to Benguela passing Unguengue, built in 2009. Today began with an "Aleluia" shockingly turning into the side of our truck (no one was hurt). We spent time meeting at the RISE Angola office, and visiting an Orthopedic Center rehabilitation project nearing completion.

Adriano Huambo, our RISE Angola Country Director, was an incredible leader and dear friend. His life and legacy were celebrated yesterday... with a powerful service, mourning and wailing, hundreds in cars, trucks, and on foot to the cemetery, a moving graveside memorial, and final goodbyes up the steep steps to the mausoleum. Heartbreaking and a huge loss for all!

Wheeling High School's Interact with Africa Club hosted their 5th Annual Trivia Challenge! Wheeling has been raising money and awareness since 2003! The event was filled with energy, excitement, and teamwork. A huge thank you to Club members, sponsors, and all who participated to make it a wonderful success and give more kids in Angola the chance to go to school!

The 3rd grade students Christian Heritage Academy wanted to help kids in Angola go to school after learning about the similarities and differences in their lives. They did chores, donated allowances and savings, and raised $800! Thanks for your generosity and compassion!

RISE visited 3rd grade classes Christian Heritage Academy to share about RISE and our work building schools in Angola to give children access to education. Students learned about the similarities and differences between their lives and those of kids in Angola. They also had the opportunity to “experience” aspects of daily life in an Angolan village, including corn pounding, carrying water jugs, balancing a basket, and wrapping African fabric. Thanks to the teachers and students for their enthusiasm and engagement!
