Troop 100 is extremely proud of these two young men, Matthew Calhoon and Andrew Henderson; they recently presented their Eagle projects and were approved for rank advancement to Eagle. They are still awaiting final approval and paperwork from National. Calhoon’s project was a set of custom made red oak bookcases for the Tripp Co. library; Henderson’s project was a long coat rack with shelf and converting an old fireplace into a storage unit for the library as well. Pictured below are Calhoon and Henderson with Scoutmaster Karen Robertson in left photo and Missouri Valley District Council Representative Paul Schoenfelder from Ft. Pierre in right.

Join Scouting. Contact us if you have a youth that wants to become a member of the pack or the troop. We are enrolling kids until September 16th and also are accepting adult leaders who want Scouting to continue and grow in our community. Thanks.

It has come to my attention that pack 100 is in a difficult spot. There are several leadership positions that need to be filled for the upcoming year. If these positions are not filled, the charter will not be renewed.

The pack contains over 35 youth members. This would be devastating to Scouting in Winner as a whole. On the troop side, our leadership is okay for now although many of us are ready to transition to more of a supportive rather than leadership role as our sons already have or will soon receive their Eagles. In the troop side, there are only four Scouts. Of those, only one will remain by this time next year as the others will be over 18 years old. If the pack dies and we have no webelos that bridge up, then the troop will die too.

What I’m asking is that if you have kids in Cubs, please step up now. Agenda calendars and projected budgets are due to the Sioux Council before August 1st. Popcorn leadership and meetings were supposed to have already taken place. We need leaders and we need them now!

The purpose of this post is to make the public aware of this issue. There will be a letter to the editor in an upcoming issue of the Winner Advocate. Anyway, if anyone wishes to contact me, feel free to. If you’ve ever had the desire to become involved in leadership of scouting, there is a definite need. I just wanted to raise awareness of this issue and try to get it resolved before the new school year of scouts. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Troop 100 hosted a picnic, games, and scouting activities for pack 100 followed by a camp out for the troop members. The pack enjoyed hot dogs made by the troop, engaged in football and three-legged races, followed by lessons in protocol for meetings, general first aid with emphasis on knife safety and fire safety where our scouts used the EDGE method to instruct the cubs, and then the group split into three rotating stations: one for paper airplanes, one for oath and law practice, and one for whittling. Finally S’mores were made and enjoyed before pack members returned to their homes. Last, troop members spent a somewhat soggy night camping behind the cabin and made breakfast burritos in the morning. Thanks to all who came and participated in making this event a success!
