Hi, my name is Paola Milan, I was born and raised in El Salvador, but about a year ago I moved to NV. I have loved camping, being outdoors, and learning survival skills since I was kid. I love listening to music, spending time with my friends and family, traveling, swimming and trying new food.

Thank you to the Union Pacific Railroad, Community Ties Giving Program for their generous $5,000 investment in outdoor education for rural, northern Nevada youth! Nevada Outdoor School is the proud recipient of a $5,000 grant from UPRR to support our youth nature programs for 2027. This funding will help us promote and provide outdoor education in rural Nevada through our Nature in My World, Nature Investigators, Nature Explorers and Adventure Buddies programs, increasing youth’s Time Spent Outdoors (TSO) and overall well-being.

We are very grateful to the Community Ties Giving Program which is distributed as local grants to nonprofit organizations, such as ourselves, that have the power to create meaningful change within the communities that Union Pacific Railroad tracks touch.

By enhancing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills and nurturing a personal outdoor ethics, we hope to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards to help insure our public outdoor spaces stay open and accessible through their generation and beyond.

In gratitude,
Melanie Erquiaga, Executive Director

🌿 Behind the Scenes at NOS!

Before our AmeriCorps Volunteers head back into classrooms, they spent some time training, preparing lessons, and getting ready for another year of outdoor education!

There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes to bring NOS programs into local schools, and our AmeriCorps Volunteers are an important part of making it happen. We’re excited to see them take what they learned and bring their energy, curiosity, and love of the outdoors into the classroom! 🍎🌲
